I have the same problem. Airbag control unit is dead. My European Z4 E85 2.5i BT31 was manufactured in Feb/March 2003, and the faulty control unit is 65776928570. I found one 65776928570 for sale in Belarus, but I don't think it's possible to buy it from there.
According to RealOEM.com, exactly the same control units that paullyjay posted above should be compatible with my Z4:

However, I am a bit sceptical if the units 65776938264, 65776939811 and 65776962767 would actually work. The name of those units changed from "Airbag control unit" to "Safety information module". I also suspect that the information on the page below might mean that those modules only work with Z4's produced after 10/2003:
