Airbag Control Module

if it end up being the SBSL passenger module i have a brand new one for sale if you need it. Normally there over £200 each but will let it go for £75 + p+p

If you're in Bracknell and free after work sometime, happy to take it off you (provided mines busted!) if you could help me with the diagnostics?

Im at Bracknell this Wednesday if your free?

Thanks for taking time out to diagnose for me!! Nice to meet and love the car too!! :driving:

The update: Unfortunately all sources seem to point to a faulty module. This is my case, obviously every case could be slightly different.
As it happens I got back to the office and had a quick browse on ebay. As you do.

Pinged up with this beauty http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262701893282
I went for this one as opposed to another one with is the superseded module for my car. This is because it's a direct replacement with the one coming out of my car.

This is the link to the superseded module, incase anyone is interested  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262701910487

So maybe my woes will come to an end sooner than I anticipated! ...watch this space!

Well hoping it's going to be a plug and play like you suggested...
Are you able to do the internal coding for the module? Changing VIN etc. So that everything ties up nicely? Instead of possibly running conflicting information? You mentioned it yesterday but we didn't talk about coding!

I'll keep everyone updated once I've managed to take the centre console out and test it out!

Please do keep us posted as i'll be tackling my own airbag issue at some point....

Theres a well reputed Z4 breaker on ebay selling part 6965147 which is the superseded version of my ECU, if you're any further on diagnostics then possibly worth hitting it up? Don't come up very often and when they do they're extortionate. Maybe worth lifting your centre console out PARTIALLY just to read the part number? Then you know...

That's if your issue is you're module... It could be the passenger seat mat sensor, or even one of the two pillar modules?

Nice one thx.
Carly has thrown up multiple airbag codes making me suspect its the module so i'll be digging deeper to clarify...

Hey guys,

if you need some help, by replacing and reprogramming some Sim85 or SBSL an SBSR let me know,it.

I replaced and reprogrammed many faulty modules in germany, its not an easys job, but it works.

regards

Right so I managed to sort my airbag. The dash looks a bit strange without the red airbag light on!

My conclusion. If you've got a problem check it's not something straightforward like the seat occupancy sensor or seat belt tensioner. Those will be quick easy fixes, well relatively speaking. So get your hands on a decent diagnostic device and see whats what for you. It'll pay to do good diagnostics first. Either by yourself or paying someone with good kit to check for you. It'll save you muddling around looking to fix things which aren't the problem.

If things point to the airbag ECU module then try resetting the car and drying the module out. A few people now have had issues where the module has got wet or a bad connection. If you disconnect the battery (20mins) and then remove the module (leave to dry and maybe spray with WD40) then try reconnecting. Obviously you'll need to run diagnostic software again and then try clearing all airbag codes.

Finally if all else fails you've probably got a bad module. I took off the centre console to take a photo of my module. With this you can find out which part numbers are interchangeable and look out for a used one on ebay. Once you've got this you can plug it into the car but it won't work without programming the module. You'll need to change the VIN or chassis number on the module to suit your car. This'll need to be done with specialist coding software. You also need to take care you don't mess anything up if you do this yourself as it could brick your module - not trusting myself I paid someone to do it! If you're a perfectionist you can even code the mileage (of the module) to that of your car as well.

If you do a full diagnostic reset now you'll be airbag light free!

Hope this helps someone out and if you need more info, etc. feel free to PM me :)

Still on the hunt mate. Most people on ebay/breakers asking for £150 (I only ever found two!!). I'm looking for slightly less - I'm a bargain hunter what can I say! Come on ebay every now and then so keeping my eye on that, and any "new" Zed's that appear online for breaking.

Also to note for your own situation, part numbers are quite specific so you can't just pick up any module. I ripped apart the car to get my hands on my part number which is 6935920. I did my own research and then I went to BM and that part has been superseded by 6965147. Which is what I got too. So basically I'm after either one of the two part numbers mentioned above.

My MOT still isn't for a while so looking hopeful. Otherwise £150 looks a dam lot better than £400+ which is what BM want for a brand new one. If I can actually get my hands on this blasted part, my indie says he can flash it with my serial numbers, etc so that the car can talk to the module. That's what he says ... and thats the plan!

Good luck with your own airbag light!

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread here, but I am having the same problem and, in doing my own research, I came across the following list of part numbers for the control units (from realoem) and whether they are interchangeable or not... Perhaps this will be useful to others!
