Air Vents and the F word

You know that you can install the aux cable (which is what i assume you are trying to do) without taking out the air vents.

This just relies on your hands being small enough.

Pop the panel below the AC controls. get someone with small girly hands (like me) to stick their hand in. you can then feel the back of the head unit.

the socket for the aux is on the very bottom left side as you look at the head unit.

the second time i fitted one i did it this way.

If you have a CD changer the socket might be occupied - some one correct me here? IIRC the two have to be merged or loose the CD changer

You should be able to see the clips if you look in the hole. If you push the little screwdriver in as shown in the previous page, you should be able to get it behind the clip. If you then lever it down, you should definitely see the clip poking down when you are looking straight through the vent slats. If you can not see that, then there is no point in doing the credit card thing as you have not unclipped it and it will never come out.

Failing all that, you may need to visit a sunnier place where God is smiling on us near Gatwick junction 10 M23.

I looped a bit of string through the vent and pulled it gently with my teeth while teasing the two screwdrivers and plastic card into the clips as I didn't have a friendly assistant and it definitely require two hands.

It also helped when I read the entire removal thread and ignored the advise on the first few posts that told you to push the clip the wrong way! :(

use a torch if you can't see the clips, just so you get an idea what you are looking at, mine were very visible in daylight but some people seem to have trouble seeing them.

And how strange it might sound, you may actually have to push the vent in slightly if you can not see the end of the clip through the hole. When you see it, then you can use the screwdriver to push the clip down.

true story!

under load the clip might be pushed up into the vent so give it a bit of slack with a gentle push in.

Well, here we are, Sunday afternoon. Despite my wife's guiding hand and after much poking about in the dark orifice with my tool, I failed to find the fabled "Cliporis" I've got the hump more than a 3 humped Camel from Hump Town in Humpland.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Right had tea and choccy bikkies...........I am going back in. If I am not back before dusk, do not come look for me for I am done for, done for I tell you.........argggggghhhhhhhh!

I've found that using a right angle pick tool: Like this makes it so much easier! You can slide it in upwards first then twist it down to push down the clips.

A modicum of success. I found the fabled Cliporis. But, the slippery bugger keeps retracting when my tool slips off as I struggle with pulling the vent out. Broken the vents 3 times and fitted them back 3 times. Getting there. Softly softly, catchee monkey! Left hand going ten to dozen....can do a single handed drum roll! Put all sharps away again before I damage something. Tomorrow is another day.

Once the screw driver is holding the clip down, get your wife to hold the screw driver so it keeps the Cliporis down? You can rip out your credit card and do the job (must sound familair ...).

I didn't recognise you without the shades..... :o
they are swimming goggles, and I was in a pub!

You must have got this cracked by now? If you've got the Cliporis down as said you need to get a card in behind that side of the vent so you don't need the screwdriver in there.

I can imagine with both you and your missus in there fiddling away trying to get everything in the right angle in the car while it's parked up it must look like some form of Dogging Twister?

I found the best way to hook the 'cliporis' ( ) was to use a bent paper clip, I found even little screw drivers too big!

Does help to have 3 hands too!

If you still can't get it out I could lend a hand, only over in Writtle, so not far if you're struggling with your sanity!

Not heard from him for a day or so now, so I am afraid he may have stabbed himself ...

Oh dear, i am reminded of the gear knob removal thread with posts like this. :D

I fitted a Connects2 today for my iPod. I had little trouble with the air vents and if anyone near me (DE12) needs help then just shout and I will come and offer my 'vent removal man' services.
