Air noise on roadster?

Beautiful day today so I thought I'd go out for a drive. Roof was down the majority of the trip so it was only coming home tonight that I've noticed a new noise appearing.

It's like air is getting in somewhere, hard to explain but it sounds like the window is open slightly (checked and it's definitely going all the way back up). It sounds as if it's coming from the rear of the car on the passenger side. I've had a look and there are no obvious tears or rips in the roof or around the rear window. Can't feel a draft coming from anywhere either.

I know I could just turn the stereo up louder or whatever but I know it's there and it'll bug me, plus if air is getting in, then potentially water will too.

Anyone else had this / any suggestions what to check next?

The roof was back up when I noticed the noise. :D It's definitely "new" as I was always impressed how quiet it was considering the fabric roof.

No I was not jesting you ,I too have noticed the same wind noise from the same place as your self.My last car was a e46 330 vert and did not notice the same noise in that.Ikeep checking to see if the passenger window is fully up too,and it always is. :?

Had The same noise today also. Usually a bit of gummi pfledge (sp) on the seals sorts it.

Gummied all the seals yesterday, but had roof down today so not had a listen for an improvement, hope this works

Reassuring to know that other people are having a similar issue, thought I was going mad!

I'll give the reset thing a go but the windows definitely appear to be all the way up / tight.

I've read that gummi pflege is a no-no due to the silicone eventually destroying rubber, any truth in this?

2 x Einszett Gummi Pflege rubber care sticks on eBay at the moment for a tenner including delivery which seems pretty good - anyone used them?

I bought that product from ebay will post up effects as its not been applied long,

ps I payed postage too so yours is a better deal.for the sake of a tenner you may as well give it a go

I have had exactly the same problem but just assumed it was my hearing, i even asked my wife if she could hear it. I am just glad to know I am not losing the plot as this has been driving me mental.

Anyone else figured out what it is?

I've given all the seals / rubber a good coating of Gummi Pflege but it hasn't made any difference. Also tried the window position reset thing.

I originally thought it was coming from the rear passenger side but my old man was in the car last week, I asked him and his initial thoughts were the rear drivers side. Checked the seals around the rear window but all looks OK.

:headbang:

If Gummi doesn't work then check the doors seals are seated properly (compare one side to the other). Also, check the door closes absolutely flush with the rear flank panel. If not, you can quite easily adjust the inner part of the lock inwards a few mm.

Has anyone managed to get this sorted?

This morning I've been out and adjusted the catch plate to pull the door in a little more, the window is now sealed perfectly along the top but where it curves there's still a very small gap before it meets the seal. You can slide paper through no problems.

It's as if the window needs to be moved back slightly to dig into the curved seal - will one of the screws on the bottom of the door adjust this or are they for moving it vertically only?

The screws at the bottom of the door move the window horizontally, so they could be worth a tweak. I had a right old game adjusting the windows after fitting new regulators but I got there in the end.

This seems right - I have a theory about this that over the 10 or so years our cars have been running around, the constant exposure to higher pressure inside the car at speed means that the window support mechanisms have "given" a tiny bit sideways and the windows actually are sucked out as you are going along, hence why it appears at speed as the pressure differential builds.

I sort of imagined it might be some PTFE bushes in the regulator or tightening/adjusting screws that might need doing up.

Just had a new regulator fitted and same thing. The window needs moving down slightly and inwards, needs adjusting with a few tools.
