After 4 E39's I may need an E89.

Can anybody see any reasons not to take a long drive to have a look at this. My heart says get 3.0 but the 2.5 will probably be quick enough for me and I would like to fit wood trim in future. 17" wheels are not quite as sexy as 18 or 19", but tyres are cheaper and more comfortable.

Nice colour combo, good mileage and a good spec (it's got the comfort pack with cruise, folding mirrors, etc), heated seats and PDC.
Looks like it's been a summer toy most of it's life, judging by the underside pics and mileage.

Used 18" wheels are generally cheap if that is a concern.

Looks to be in good condition..judging by the discs driven by Miss Daisy..bombproof engine that needs to be stirred to make rapid progress which may or may not be a issue..if you are worrried about tyre life I guess not..

A weird selection of options..electric seats (heated), comfort package which includes rear wind diffuser plus cruise, rest is pretty basic..basic radio, no USB/media support, no iDrive etc

Ride on 17" wheels should be good with the base suspension..I see it has the OE runflats.

A sensible purchase!

Thanks B21 and Pondrew.
Such a nice car it was sold last week :x
Friendly dealer though: he is looking out for a similar car for me.

Well good to see some movement in the market...

UPDATE

The search is over. I finally bought a deepsea blue/Tiefseeblau Metallic with ivory leather from a knowledgeable and careful Polish gent 120 miles from Plymouth.
Manual and the desirable 3.0 30i sDrive with no expensive turbos to replace.

Yes. I know you want pictures, but you will have to wait.

She is currently up on axle stands as I chose to save Β£1000 and not have his black 19" aftermarket rims with cheap tyres, but the original silver 18" wheels (style 293) with 4 two year old non RFT Bridgestone Turanza 6 tyres instead; these however were corroded and kerbed so are already with South West Wheel Repairs in Exeter for three days. That's given me a chance to clean and paint hubs, calipers, shocks and back plates.

Other jobs to do:
polish and seal the paintwork that is covered in light scratches.
There is a daft spoiler stuck to the boot that need to be removed ASAP
the interior has been wrapped in faux carbon fibre; that needs to be removed and replaced with wood trim when some turns up on eBay unless somebody here is selling some.
The kidney grilles are shiny black plastic so I am searching for some original chrome/silver ones.
The lower front valance panel has been badly sprayed with rattle can, so needs to visit a body shop.
Leather needs cleaning.

But, despite high mileage, everything works, no rattles, squeaks, leaks or problems. The service history is all receipts from past five years, but nothing before. No dents or rust. The engine bay is clean and dusty with absolutely no oil or coolant leaks. Brake discs and pads are new. Slight wear to driver's side seat. Etc. A real genuine car with no dealer mark up.

She drives perfectly, especially considering mileage, no play or wobbles in steering, no rattling or squeaking over bumps ( standard suspension), braking is solid and straight, clutch and gearbox sweet. Oh, and that in-line six? STUNNING, all the way to 7000 rpm!
Combined with the suspension and steering she really flies. How long before I get my first speeding ticket ?
I honestly do not know why anyone would want more power in a road car, but maybe that is a good thing or else I would be buying a 35iS turbo or a Porsche.

Taking my wife, and then 21yo son, out with roof down in the Autumn sun yesterday, and seeing the silly grins on their faces will be a memory I will take to my grave; worth very penny.

Any preventative maintenance for the roof and engine gratefully received.

Well, hopefully images next week. Thanks for all your advice and help. 😎😁

We bought a 23i 6-pot Z4 over three years ago and love it. And it’s black. No faults. 50k miles (it’s another garage queen doing sub 1000 miles PA). I spent ages fussing over the tyres… ours runs on 19” and M-Sport suspension and came with Bridgestone run flats. After spending good money to replace the damaged rear alloys, And a cracked spring, I dumped perfectly useable tyres for a set of Conti Sports and it’s like night and day. Buy the car you most covet and bin the RFTs for some normal rubber. And invest in a quality detail. It’s worth every penny.
What's the story with your front calipers? Are they 35i upgrade/OEM or aftermarket?

They are ATE and atm I assume OEM.

I was confused by that question, now I see you were not asking me! :?

They are Brembo 6 pot callipers

Ours? BMW Performance OE kit - discs, callipers and pads - for the equivalent 3 series. BMW state there is no upgrade for the E89, however this set fit perfectly (and they know it too). I found all the details on here; There’s some clever guys and girls posting in the Forum. Not cheapest route I guess but looks the dogs biscuit.

And no, you'll probably notice no difference on braking performance unless you’re tracking it. Those originals do a good job of stopping the car but look lost inside a 5-spoke, 19” wheel and I couldn’t cope with that

Just wait until you see my dirty brown calipers hastily painted with Hammerite before the storm came in! I can paint yours if you want. :poke:

Congratulations.

There don't seem to be many 30i models around, and Deep Sea Blue is a great colour!

Thanks Mr Tidy, that's nice of you.
She's not as gorgeous as the E89s of JenniferLouise or B21 but should keep me happy when I have finished sprucing her up.

Too kind ☺️

Well sorry for delay, it has rained a lot lately and I spent a while sorting out vibration from wheels (my own fault!), but a couple of shots from our afternoon driving the twisty roads of South Dartmoor today. I forgot my camera so they are poor quality from my wife's old 'phone "digitally zooming".
Hopefully we will get out in the sun again tomorrow for better images.

Oh by the way I beeped and waved to two Z4 drivers today, a blue G29 and a grey E85, but without a response; do we not acknowledge one another?

Very nice. DSB is a cracking colour IMO, especially with a light coloured interior.

Thanks very much Pondrew, along with deep reds and greens, it is my favourite colour for a car. I have had two E39 Tourings in blue/sand and a Saab 9000Aero and my current E39 in black /sand. The interior shade is non negotiable for me.

I think all of us on here do!

Your car looks lovely in that colour combination.

It reminds me a bit of my previous Z4 that was Montego Blue with Pearl Grey leather.
