Actually, is there an AFE for the 3.0 M54 I wonder...

There is indeed :) Sounds lovely too - well, the one for the 2.5 does.
Ah, forgot you had one!

Thanks. That's certainly something to think about. It'd work out a lot more expensive than the Simota though: I've ordered one at <£140 shipped from the States (excluding import tax) but it's currently showing as "back order" and I want/need this for a meet in 5 weeks!

There is indeed :) Sounds lovely too - well, the one for the 2.5 does. Don't buy if you have a slight "ghost" whistle though, the extra airflow makes it too noticeable - although that would be the same with any induction kit. Nicely made too. And no, the one from my 2.5 won't fit the 3.0, although not sure why - they are on different part numbers.

If you get one, buy from the US direct, works out quite a bit cheaper than through a UK importer, I saved about £50 I think.

Booner, glad you're happy with it, sounds really good... liked mine, apart from the damn whistle :(

Yes - your car does sound very good

Ah bugger, the place I ordered mine from in the States have just refunded the money back into my Paypal account as it's out of stock. Guess it was too good to be true at that price - but take the fecking item off your website then!!!

Anyone spotted a Simota for the 3.0 M54 engine for sale for less than £200? It's the E46 330i M54 engined one that fits the 3.0 Z4 pre-facelift... :D

Any luck with it Z8Cookie? I'm in love with mine - I actually genuinely believe that I would have just been happy with the intake and the stock exhaust.

Yep, it's on. Took just under an hour, fairly straightforward to fit, except removing the air box clips (err... turn & remove?.... I will need 2 new ones if I ever put the old filter box back! ;)

Like you, my MPH will have been a bit poor this morning  Sounds fantastic over 3,500 rpm. Do you get a sort of rasp at first then a roar higher up?

Took a few photos with my iPhone along the way... sorry about the size & quality....

1.) this rubber knob (lol) underneath should pull off leaving a small metal peg. The cross on the bottom of the filter box then slots onto this if you loosen the plenum tube arm. Tighten the plenum tube arm and then tighten part 2 up further to secure. This gave me a very tight fit and no movement.

2.) Did you break these clips? If so, the trick is to use pliers to pick off the bottom bits, then fiddle with it for a while, twist 90* and then pull up hard... seemed to work ok, but was hard work.

I get a rasp till 3500 ish, then it really roars. Absolutely love it, however I usually fill up a full tank once a week on a Saturday....I had to fill up again today before leaving work for home, which says something about the noise..!

P.S. Could you take a photo of the whole engine bay with the cross brace in view too from further back, I want to see it 8)

You've got the Vee for ultimate audible pleasure though Ali :)

Simota carbon intake: £235
or
AFE intake: ~£400

Argh!!!

Ally, Simota. Shame they don't get their bum's in gear and make a bespoke unit for the M. Guy i spoke to didn't seem 'overly' bothered.

I noticed this morning that the rasp also sounded like there was a fast ticking/rattle as well at first, but this might be because I missed the lower mounting point, so I will see if changes after I mount it properly!
