Aerodynamic Skirts, Group Buy Deal

Yep they're the ones.

This "Aerodynamic kit", I can only see the difference between the front bumper. The sides look exactly the same as a sports skirt?

Just remember that some insurance companies charge up to 50% additional premium for just those skirts. Buyer beware.

Count me out :(

Called the insurance company: Increase in premium is £660 per year (current premium is under 400 per year ...) compulsary excess goes to £1250 !!

I can not believe it, to have the skirts the car insurance goes from £400 to over £1k a year !!

That's so funny that the price goes up like that. Count me out.

Strange really as they must just get the car counted as customised. Mine did not even care about a new facelift front end as it's a standard part.

Renewal in september. Will have a look around as if any mod hikes it like this, they may even have an issue with my gearknob.

I don't know what insurance company is charging that ridiculous amount for the addition of sideskirts but I pay about £50 extra with A-plan for the aero sideskirts, strut brace and 19" wheels. It's worth looking for a new insurance company as the price in this group buy is excellent. If I didn't already have them I'd definitely go for this.

This whole insurance thing is quite surprising, I was chatting to a broker friend of mine and asked him how these mods could affect your insurance so much, The short answer was, the way the insurance company look at it is if you make a claim they have to pay every claimable part of the car insured in there eyes,,

So I then mentioned I have £1500 worth of up graded audio and have bought a hardtop, the answer was if you dont tell them you techinacally cant claim for those items (likewise if I had a £1000 guitar in the boot, which I do sometimes), but it would not affect your claim on anything standard, and in most cases they would not bat an eyelid anyway, and would most likely cover them (not the guitar obviously :D ).

One of the things he did say, was the mods that can affect your claims and what an assessor looks for, are things like, non standard wheels, non standard brakes, engine modifications, non standard suspension etc,

I assume that by "modding" the car, you automatically have a non standard car and therefor fall into a high risk category.

I am not interested if they don't cover the side skirts, but the fact that the excess increases so much and the base premium, that is unforgivable in my opinion.

Just thought I'd bump this and remind everyone of the deadline....14th August.

For those who want to place an order I can be contacted on 01622 717222 Monday - Friday 8.00am-6.00pm

I would have if it was not for the insurance.

Were they never an option on the M?

I'd have just fitted them anyway, then claim it came like that ;)

They have BMW stamps all over them soooo... you could even claim that they were damaged when you jacked it up one day, so you got the local bodyshop to replace them... ooo, they must have fitted the wrong ones!

I'd only worry if it's nasty stuff from a tuner with their stamps on there, which are clearly not OE manufacturer equipment. Afterall, who has bought a stubby aerial? Anyone fitted aero wipers? Superior quality halogen bulbs? Later model brake light clusters with non-orange centres? Optional (even on 3.0i!!!) chrome exhaust tips? M-sport seats? Extended leather on an M (I bet that costs a packet and is hard to get on a car with a damaged interior!)

I take your point and I agree that it is a defendable option probably. The difference with the lights change (that I did on my previous Z as well without telling insurance company) is that it is more or less like for like, but newer. The skirts are "diffirent" so that argument might be a little more difficult to defend.

Being BMW's own option does make it a lot easier to sell, I agree with that. I might revisit this a little later again ...
