Aerial removal

I need to remove the aerial on occasions when I use a car cover, had same problem with the SLK, so how do you remove on a Zed, don't want to break anything

+2 Becareful not to force it if it as the aerial screw thread my be seized into the base, otherwise you might break the screw thread. If it's tight you could try spraying some WD40 and let it soak for a while and then try to unscrew it again.

It does unscrew. Changed mine for a stubby.

Even though car was new, it was tight and very difficult to undo...although I am a wimp, so that might be the problem!

A quick blast of WD40 the night before removal, then another little shot in the morning before taking it off should help...

most just unscrew without a problem, some however can can seized and its been known for people to damage the aerial base

WD40 is not really the best thing to use for this - it's actually a Water Dispersant (which is what the "WD" stands for). Far better to use a Penetrating Oil. Leave it to soak in for 24 hours or more (reapplying if necessary) and then hope that some gentle force will persuade the aerial to move.

Also, if the aerial has seized, sometimes tightening it very slightly (1/8 turn or less) before loosening can help it to shift.

It's also probably good preventative maintenance to remove your aerial from time to time, even if you don't ever plan to replace it with a stubby.
