Aerial - Male or Female

I have bought a new stubby aerial to replace the one that came with the car.

Unscrewing the old one, it has female threads and the new one has male threads.

The car has male threads.....is my new aerial wrong, or do I need to somehow remove the thread on the car.

Replacement aerials come with a few different threaded adaptors to fit different cars. I suspect that it may just be the adaptor stuck in the base. Try turning it with pliers, or two nuts put on and locked together, then turn the lower one.

To clarify, you think the bit stuck in the base on the car, in my picture, is the one I should try removing?

This is what I was planning, just needed to check.
