I apologise for raising a common issue, but it is difficult to find definitive answers while trawling through hundreds of posts.

I bought car with misted rear lights. I drilled bottom lights with 2mm bit and they have dried out, although there is coloured residue inside them both.
Very heavy showers last night and a usual snowfoam and handwash this morning. When out driving today right indicator failed, although as it dries/warms does come back on. All other LEDs and bulbs are fine

It is dangerous and illegal to continue like this so please advise me.

1. Genuine BMW
2. Pattern part
3. Used/fleabay
4. strip and repair (Pondrew used contact adhesive)

Cheers

There are no 3rd party parts bar the super duper Chinese versions which are a different ball game..the 3rd party ones afaik are just the one and only version in a different box..

The eBay guy that refurbish them gets good reports

Otherwise it’s new parts ..I think they are on version 8 of it..

Magnetti Marelli make them..

Wouldn’t risk a used version..imho

Did you seal the 3rd holes?

If not I'd expect water in the foam of the hydraulic pump.

Rubber grommets installed

Thanks flybobbie.
I guess you mean sealing lamp assembly to body with black bitumen sealant.
The light is fine now it has dried out, but I will buy a marelli one and dissect the old one to try and seal the lens.

The rubber gasket is double lipped so when fitting the light you have to ensure both lips sit either side of the rear body shell

Mine damp free several years now.

Both replaced today with Magneti Marelli items from Germany before roadtrip Boxing Day. £320 the pair delivered.
Sticky rubber foam over missing fixing holes, will check for leaks later.
Both original lamps badly split, but were still functioning.

Merry Christmas all.
