Advice on s35i DCT thinking of buying

was looking for a s23i manual but found a nice s35i DCT which has done 28000 miles and has satnav and looks imaculate and at the same price

any worries or things to look out for?

according to Parkers fuel economy is same as manual s23i

will it be harder to sell on and loose more money?

anything else you can think of as need to make decision

thanks

DCT is great. Going by how few there are for sale, they sell pretty quickly. Great engine, great gearbox....

ditto, im also looking to trade up to a 35i when i hand my 20i back in 2.5 years

I have a 35i with DCT and the engine and gearbox are great. I'm shocked by the fuel economy though. It's worse than my old 3.8l 997 and the Z4 isn't as powerful. I think it's a turbo thing.

Edit: also the insurance on the Z4 is more than the 997. go figure.

Wow really gadget? I hit an all time low of 16 mpg this week, but I'm very heavy with my right foot and love the sound...

The 35i and DCT is a great combination.
Although I do find it annoying pushing the gear lever forward to engage reverse and vice versa. Not sure what the logic is and sometimes still catches me out
Fuel economy is rubbish from cold but great after warmed up. So good economy on long runs of upto 35mpg but poor at about 25mpg if you are going to be doing a lot of short journeys.

I agree with K99 its a bit stange at first but you do get used to it.

with regard to MPG urban is about 20 mpg , but my attitude is why worry its stopping me from wasting money on other stuff

KINHELL!

i thought my 24 was poor.

Have to agree about the noise it makes, iIs like a drug!!!

Complete no brainer - do it. I get better fuel economy than a Toyota Prius..... Ok , so nowhere near really but who cares!

Had my DCT for a few days only. Around town and just using the auto mode- looking for to a long drive at the weekend

With the DCT, do people prefer using the buttons or stick?

Need to practice with both to see which works, but the buttons are not as intuitive as paddles at first use.

Paddles on faster, more open roads and gearstick for really tight 1st and 2nd gear roads where the wheel is usually upside down!

Can't go wrong with a 35i and DCT. I'm averaging about the same MPG as my previous 335i, but the sound is much more intoxicating and the DCT is simply too much fun. :D

I've had mine for a year now. Have to say it's been a year of smiles.
The idea of pushing the paddles to change down is a little odd at first, but you soon get used to it. I use the right paddle to change up and the left to change down, it's just natural now.
As regards economy, I do all sorts of driving and I generally average 25. The odd motorway run sees 32. Around town.....don't ask!

It may have the odd rattle and the ride can be a bit hard and crashy at times, but this pails into a distant memory when you have the roof down and get the chance to squeeze the loud pedal.....wonderful.

I love mine.

i've been looking into this a bit more and i think i came to this conclusion because i found myself filling up the Z4 more, but i'm now thinking that's because the fuel tank is smaller on the zed and not because the fuel economy is worse.

I like to use the manual aspect of the DCT for change downs In to tight corners getting the engine happy and ready to punch out of the bend. Just works so well in sports mode and more eager to. Change down and rev match . It's such a buzz to be fired out of the bend!

I came from Z4MC and I was very concerned about DCT so concerned that before I bought one I made the dealer lend me a car with it for a day so I could really get a feel for it. 18 months later I love it it becomes second nature very easily.
I know I will get shot for this but the thing about MPG puzzles me in that you buy a 3ltr 'sports' car you would expect that its going to use a lot of petrol so if that worries you I wouldnt buy it
