Admiral Insurance, Speechless!!!!

I did an online quote today with Admiral and it was reasonable 356 pounds fully comp with zero excess. I went to revise the car details looking for Tracker input as I have Tracker Locate fitted. After inputting that information the quote rose to 375 pounds. I thought this cannot be right, so I phoned them and their excuse was that people that have Trackers fitted generally had nicer cars and they attracted attention to themselves, I slammed the phone down straight away I couldn't bare to hear such tosh. Anyone out there have such an experience? also anyone out there with a Tracker fitted that attracts a discount from their insurance company?

Haha yeah admiral are rediculous with things like this.
Was cheaper for me to be parked on the street than my driveway and cheaper on my driveway than my garage lol.
Guess they will use the same excuse as above e.g. better cars go in garages blah blah blah

That's shocking :headbang:

You would have thought a tracker would give you a discount, I've also heard that if you put your car in a garage, like me and many others, that you are a greater risk, not from theft but from fire!

Tell them you leave it outside and they will tell you you should have a garage to stop it being stolen :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I do wonder if it's worth stating one is fitted unless you have to. Flux weren't fussed if my car had one or not, but as soon as I activated the one I found was fitted, they amended the policy to say it was only valid if the tracker was operational. No discount, no nothing. So if the car is taken, the chances it will be recovered are improved, less risk of a total loss to them. Pfft.

Maybe you did the right thing, do a quote without, then with. I wonder how many other insurance companies pull this stunt?

They also had the balls to tell me to get it deactivated to save money. They must be run by the LibCon/ConLib party.

There's a German word I've been know to sling at the occasional errant road user who's annoyed me. I think I've got the plural right. Arschlochen. Maybe one of our German friends will confirm or correct. However it's not hard to translate, and I think it's fairly appropriate...

I had a tracker on my first BMW (10 years ago now :o ) it was only a 320d but being a demonstrator was quite well specd and the dealer always fitted trackers to it's demo cars. I was never offered any discount on insurance, I was told at the time it ones of those things that some cars need to be insured, and on the others we don't care.

Just been on line again to check other companies, Elephant, Bell and Diamond all charge extra. Others do not have an option to let them know about this mod that will potentially save them money. I will be going with one that doesn't ask. Funk the rest, I had Tracker fitted for my own piece of mind and I won't be forced into getting it deactivated. I will be writing to Tracker to Inform them of the situation.

Phew! thank god that's off my chest.

there is absolutely no logic to what they say! well done on slamming the phone down - just what that stupid comment deserved.

Just emailed Tracker informing them of the situation, also asked them for a company, as per their advert, that discounted for having their products fitted. Watch this space. Not!

Beware of Admiral. I paid my renewal only to find I had been charged a further £30 a couple of weeks later.

I phoned then and was told they had scoured ALL of my quotes from other insuance companies and because I had included modifications on the quotes (just out of interest really) they assumed I had not informed them.

I now have to send my logbook to them as proof of non modification to get my money back.

Elephant, Bell, Diamond and Admiral are all the same company.

Insurance companies work off of a really basic risk model that more often than not makes no sense whatsoever. Yet these plums don't feel the need to apply a bit of common sense or discretion - simple, "computer says no"

Its the same reason why if someone hits you up the arse, admits blame, it goes through their insurance jobs a good un. But no, you're premiuim will go upo next year :headbang: Its because according to their statistics and therefore the risk model they'll apply, you're more likely to claim on your own insurance if you claimed in someone elses.

Same for the stored in a garage rule. Statistically more cars get stolen from a garage, why? Because generally those who go to the effort to put their car in a garage do so because they have a nice car (so more likely to get stolen) Common sense would tell you they're even more likely to get stolen if they are kept on the drive. And no doubt as more do the tides will change. Its a joke.

I know I'm an old git but I did an online quote on confused.com in advance of my renewal and the cheapest was SAGA at .................... £230 fully comp with £400 excess ,4 years no claim on my 3.0i ( kept in garage but told them kept on drive!)
