Additional corrosion protection?

During the winter here in Norway, the roads are sprayed with a salt solution to avoid icy conditions. Road salt treatment is the case for several countries in northern Europe. The salt works fine on the ice, but is a threat to cars with regards to corrosion. Because of this, some car manufacturers advise their customers to add extra corrosion protection after some time :!: . I asked my local stealer if the Z4 needed some extra protection, but he answered that BMW’s have a good corrosion program for their cars, so this was no problem.

But I don’t know… maybe I should have given my Z4 some additional protection with Tectyl, Tuff Cote Dinol or similar :scratchhead:

Any thoughts or experience out there?

As it's occational snow here, I've invested in some stud free winter tyres on Dotz aluminium rims. Have one winter season behind me, and there are no corrosion to be seen. Actually, I'm more worried about the car. Have seen what salt can do with fine cars

You could coat the underneath of the car with a Waxoyl type product, and you could completely cover the bodywork in a clear vinyl wrap which will also protect against chips & scratches.

I'm getting Paintshield to do my leading edges (mirrors, bumper, wings, etc.) in their film as I do a lot of motorway driving and stone chips are a regular occurrence.

When salt is being used on the roads during winter, just try and keep the car clean as possible and keep an eye out for stone chips and scratches. My time is currently taken up trying to keep as much salt off the 108's as possible, having heeded advise from other members regarding how quickly they can corrode, Salt being the alloys worst enemy.
