Add sat nav to a z4 that does not already have it

I am thinking about buying a second had Z4 (new shape) and want to know -

If it does not have the sat nav, is it something I can get bmw to put in for me, as many of them do not have this.

I think it will be extremely expensive to retro-fit sat nav (£3k plus). It is a £2k option when a new car is ordered. If sat nav is retro-fitted, a new dash board is needed first, with all wiring, labour, re-programming, etc. You better buy one that has factory-fitted sat nav (safer and better).

It can be done - and doesnt need a new dash but some cutting involved - but I think for the cost you will be better of qwith a Garmin 'portable' (or other make) unit.

Hmm, is there some kind of stero unit i could to replace the exsisting stereo that would have a flip out screen (and thus sat nav)

E85 or E89 a new ndah is not required, you cut a hole in the E85 as many of us have, or replace the storage bin with the monitor on the E89

£500-£600 DIY on E85

Very expensive on E89 as idrive also need to be fitted which will have to be coded no doubt.

Forgot there is now a storage bin if no sat nav on E89. Did you fit it yourself on your Z4? The whole unit was just £500-600?

Yes fitted myself, DVD drive £200 (real bargin), Monitor £115, Headunit £115, Loom £60, GPS Antenna £10, Original Map £20.

PVR and DHK have also both fitted, it's not hard but takes some guts in cutting the hole

Can you buy a new dash that has slot for fitting sat nav from BMW? Cutting the hole really needs more guts.

But OEM sat nav on E85 only provides 1 function. Sat nav with iDrive on E89 can control other car settings as well.

Just joined the forum. Looking at buying a nearly new z4 and really want satnav.

Will probably get one with satnav fitted, but I did look at some zeds without satnav and BMW now do a retrofit satnav that fits in the slot the satnav would go in. It's a touchscreen BMW unit that they fit to the stereo and speakers and has Bluetooth as well. No wires on show, all plugged to car battery.

There is a link to it on the BMW website and it looks really good in the z4.

If you don't have original sat nav, it's a great retrofit. I was told it costs about 500 pounds include fitting.

Only downside is no touch system.

I'm getting close to choosing my car. Hope to get it sorted in next couple of weeks.

The retro nav is tidier than just going out and buying one but still nothing like as good as the integrated system. I'd try and find one you like with nav.
