Nondizzyblonde said:The sad thing is that honour killings and acid attacks happen over here too, as part of my CPD this year we had an input on this from Halo a charity who helps survivors and possible victims. It was a very thought provoking session, including the bit about girls dying each year as they are married off very young. There was the case study of an 8 year old who died from severe internal injuries. http://www.haloproject.org.uk/

Firstly, no offence intended to anyone.
I believe that everyone has a right to make a comment as long as it is made with knowledge of the core matter I don't think anyone would have issue on that basis.
This practise has NOTHING TO DO WITH ISLAM.. Islam Prohibits any kind of force in marriage and should there be any kind of coercion in any way however subtle, Islamically the marriage would not be lawful.
This practise has its roots in the Indo Pak sub continent where it has been practised for centuries. It transcends religion and is rooted in the pursuit of retaining land ownership within a family. You could be a Bangladeshi, Indian, Pakistani, Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Sikh makes no difference.
With regards the use of acid I imagine they are trying to assert control by leaving the uncooperative victim so mutilated that they will have little chance of finding a life partner.
Sadly the suicide by fire trend is all the obvious things like threats, emotional blackmail, hopelessness and in my humble opinion the lack of an education available in these countries.
It is sickening but I would like to clarify it is nothing to do with ISLAM.

I sometimes wonder why I have holidayed in Britain so many times & left behind so much of my money. It's not fair, But that's just the way it is.

And who exactly is doing all this lumping?

I hardly think that's a fair view, these women are born into their families, they didn't choose the culture which treats them so awfully and when they refuse to marry some dirty scum they get acid threw in their faces

Quite a few TV personalities and of course the over all tone in the news media is one of a fair amount of finger wagging at the USA. I get it that a few celebs might do it in jest for a laugh. Yet. It's plain to see and hear when they are being serious. It goes on quite a bit from Andy Parson's & a little less so from Frankie Boyle (I like his biting wit though) when he was on mock the week. (which I enjoy watching) As well as a fair amount of the guests on "have I got a bit more news for you". Stephan Fry lets out a USA Freudian slip now and again on QI. Yet I'm a fan of him and the show. But just before I hear a poke at the USA. I will usually hear "the American's" as opposed to the American government which would separate the foolish actions of a government run amok to the common folk on the street.
I guess that I'm just more aware of it just as Z4MO is aware of generalizations about his religion. So I understand Z4MO's frustration with what I said. I try and qualify a statement (though I sometimes fail) by saying the Radical Islamist's not the Muslim's, The British government not the British people's, So on and so forth.
To be fair, whoever we elect, they all have the same policies (give or take).Nondizzyblonde said:Also, to be fair, the government is elected by its people...
