Accurate Vin Decoder

Is Bimmer.Work relatively accurate? Seems to think my Manual 30i is an Auto rather than a manual… is suggesting I have a few other options that I didn’t realise I had, but might have… Car is in the body shop currently having some niggles sorted, so can’t check!

Anyone have any other working decoders?

Many thanks

I use this one

https://www.mdecoder.com/

Usually puts all cars as LHD and auto but only ever had one error with a cd changer

Brilliant, thanks.

So it seems I have the 677 HiFi DSP, IDrive, Professional nav, Phone prep, music interface for smartphone, adaptive cruise, adaptive headlights, PDC, voice control, BMW assist & online? Brake energy regeneration? Heated MSport seats, etc.

But what is ‘adaptive M chassis’ ?

Surely some of this is standard?

Is it adaptive suspension?

I don’t think so, the dampers looked like standard dampers to me… I’ll have a proper look again when I get the car back end of next week :?

Adaptive M chassis…is the M sport chassis with adaptive dampers AFAIK..ie lower springs with adaptive dampers and MSport trim

I’ve done a little more digging with the code (S2VF) and it seems this is indeed adaptive dampers… Hmm, was intending to fit KW coilovers, wonder if this will cause any issues?

You will just have to code out S2VF from the VO and remove the S2VF ECU

See my 35i build thread…it’s covered there.. :tumbleweed:

Thanks Peter, but there’s 31 pages in that thread… can you give me a link to the relevant page perhaps? Or a quick indication on cost/effort/ time to do this?

Thank you

You need ISTA or I used Bimmergeeks Protool…around £100 plus OBD adapter then you have a great coder ‘ diagnostic tool

Then it’s free

..... adaptive cruise.....

Really?? :? I'm assuming you mean $544 - Cruise Control with brake function

The Z4 never came with Adaptive Cruise.

Another option for checking your spec list is https://bimmer.work/ always a good source (may need an add-blocker on though  )

It is 544, for some reason the Bimmerwork decoder calls it ‘Dynamic Cruise Control’ ?

To be honest, I thought adaptive/dynamic cruise only worked with Auto’s and my car is definitely an manual

Yeah according to my VO code list 544 is listed as "Dynamic Cruise Control", "Individual Equipment" and "Cruise Control with brake" so I believe it depends on model and the E89 only had the brake version. I don't believe it makes a difference between Manual and Auto either as I've retrofitted Cruise to both Manuals and Autos and the part numbers are the same.

So the cruise on my daily driver is radar driven, speeds up, slows down, stops the car completely etc. I can’t see how this would work on anything other than an Auto as the car would stall… that’s all I meant.

I guess this option (E89) just applies the brake if someone pulls out in front off you, better than nothing

On the E89 the "Brake" function is puerly to slow you down in certain situations ie; if your cruise was set at, let's say, 50mph in roadworks and then you came to a steep downhil gradient, natually the car would start to speed up. So that's where this system cuts in and applies some brake to bring you back to 50mph, it's so subtle you wouldn't even notice it. It would also work if you were set at something like 65 and needed to reduce it down to 55, pulling back on the stalk would mean that it would use the brakes to slow down.

Now on the 3 series of the same era (E9x) they also had Cruise and Cruise with brake but also Active Cruise where a sensor was mounted in the front grill, but for some reason (best known to bMW0 they felt the need not to include it as an option for the E89 :( :?

Ok, thanks for the heads up, that’s good to know.

So basically you can relax in the knowledge that you won’t crash into anything at a higher speed than you’ve set your Cruise to in an E89
