AC Schnitzer 20i upgrade

I think the point here that LUX is making is that if his car was a year old, you're still charging for a 2 year warranty, for which only 1 year is valid? Surely it would make more sense to offer a tiered approach, a cost for the remap/work and then extra costs per year for the bolt on warranty? That way someone where the warranty only qualifies for a year, pays only for a year and not two.

Effectively the way your pricing works, you are penalising those with older cars. Charging for two years warranty where less may be applicable.

Yes, thanks Maniac....was I not putting it across correctly!! :(

At £2k for the upgrade + £400 for the extra year warranty + £275 fitting (if I don't want a six hour round trip) = £2,675 it starts to sound too expensive for me. If it was all in for £2k which I first thought it was i'd be interested.

Sorry. :(

Regardless of the reasons for starting the warranty from the new engine, on a five year old car that will defo have no warranty, then it is just profiteering to charge £800 for the warranty.

Germans or not, that's just wrong and the price should be £1200?

don't think there will be many takers at the asking price as it does seem a rip off.
I would say £600 is tops for the mod plus £400 for each actual year the warranty runs.

At the right price they could have sold a few on here, shame! I'd say £2k tops for fitted (wherever that may be Schnitzer or BMW dealer) and two year warranty, and that's being generous.

The issue of the warranty sounds very strange. The pricing as others have said should simply be £1200 plus either £400 or £800 for one or two year warranty.

:scratchhead:

Simple logic applied & succinctly put  amen .

or alternatively stump up the extra initially for some decent poke :poke: :P

IIRC AC Schnitzer are "official" BMW tuners? Therefore I imagine that its only a 2 year from new warranty as otherwise no-one would buy a 28i. Just buy a 20i and pay £2k and have the same power. This way you pay £2k AND lose a years worth of warranty....

Aren't the injectors and brakes different on the 28i?

If I was going for power then I'd rather buy the larger engine up front, but appreciate this as an upgrade path for those that didn't, although I guess for some it will be a simple case of buy the 20i and use this to upgrade to 28i power?

Will be interesting to hear if ACS have an answer for the warranty costs when some customers are never going to be able to use it? For instance, I might be interested down the road, but by then the 2yr from new will be up, so I'd be loathed to pay the £800 for 2yrs warranty that no longer apply.

Still waiting for an answer to my question....in that instance, what happens to that £800?

If the injectors are different it wouldn't matter to me if the power is the same. Better brakes would be nice but if its still £2k cheaper for 20i+tune vs 28i I'd have done the 20i + tune and spent the rest on idrive etc.

Either way the fact the warranty is only up to 2 years old makes the deal pointless for me now i.e. the only way to get the warranty is to have the car tuned straight after you bought it brand new.

I'll either get mine done at a reputable tuners or look at upgrading after my 3 year deal is done.

I didn't get the 28i originally because I'm gradually getting faster and faster cars so my current car is still the fastest I've had compared to anything before!

I am tempted. HOWEVER £2k is quite a chunk of change.

I am one of the 'never happy' brigade...I will have a trip to Norfolk next month I think!!

But my point is, if the 28 has different components, how can a software mod be as reliable? Won't it be stressing the components more than they were designed for?

I guess that's all been taken into account, but for me I'd want the security of a warranty and the 2 yr rule dents my confidence.

I turned it down purely as they want an extra £400 to match my BMW warranty, and they won't knock anything off the price if you get it fitted at your local dealer. I don’t see how they can charge you for something you’re not having – 1st year warranty and fitting!!
Not great business sense to me, they could have sold a few of these on here if they sorted these issues out.

Does anyone know why there is such a lack of choice when it comes to re mapping the 2.0 turbo BMW engine as seen in the 2.0is? It must have been in production over a year now yet none of the regular suspects such as DMS, superchips etc seem to offer a re map?

2.0is (could be confused with the e85 2.0)? You mean the e89 20i? From what I've seen there's the AC one as mentioned here, plus some box you can plug in (it was mentioned on the e89 US forums/bimmerpost). I've not seen anything else though as yet.

Oh I see what you mean about components. Hopefully at least an "official" remap being available means it is possible without overly stressing the engine.
I agree with you though, I would seriously consider this if my warranty was unaffected - too expensive and too much risk without it.

YEA you can get the kelleners (sp?) or racechip - http://www.racechip.de/en/chiptuning/bmw/z4/e89/sdrive20i-135kw/index.php or speedbuster = http://www.speed-buster.de/en/chiptuning-box-bmw-z4-sdrive20i-135-kw-184-ps/a-10109573/
