Hey forum. I bought a 2007 z4 3.2 liter 6 speed in March. The perfect car for me where I live.
Like all vehicles it’s having some odd issues. I was out cruising last month and the abs brake light as well as the triangle warning light came on and the speedometer stopped working. I took it to the dealer and they said it was the left rear tire sensor that was out. I ended up having them replace all 4 sensors.
After that a new issue started. When I am driving the abs brake lights flash on and the radio shuts off. This is very intermittent. Sometimes I can drive for an hour without it happening, sometimes it starts happening right away and never stops happening.
I took it back to the dealer and they checked it for free since I thought it could be one of the new sensors acting up. They said it’s the abs hydro unit. It should be putting out 5v but it puts out 13v. They want $4k to replace it!
I have an OBD2 reader. I hooked it up and drove around, but its not reading any codes. Does the reader have to be specifically designed for bmw?
I also put my battery tender charger on the battery all week to make sure it was topped off. That didn't help.
I saw on the forum the option to have ecutest rebuild my ABS unit for way less then $4000. Is that the route I should go next? Or has anyone experienced the unit putting out more then 5v and found a quick fix?
