Alternator or ECU/ABS unit

Drove my 2003 zed 3 litre today for the first time in 3 days

Car started perfectly, as always, but Battery light came on for the first time ever.

Drove 12 miles home with the battery light on most of the time.

In the last 2 miles, a load of lights came on in the dash: abs, DSC, traction, tyre pressure, etc etc, amber's.

In the last 50 metres (fortunately!!) The EPS light came on, and steering got heavy.

Parked up. Turned off. Turned on again, lights are out, but just the solenoid click.

I'm thinking alternator...

Came back to the car 3 hours later, tried again and it started. Thought I'd take it for a spin, and all the lights started coming back on one by one, then no electrics!

Now awaiting recovery (stupid boy)

So while I'm waiting....

Alternator right? Not ECU or abs unit?

Had a brand new OEM BMW battery about 2 years ago

Yeh defo alternator, the car was basically just getting all its electrical power from the battery which was gradually discharging until the volts got so low that the systems started going screwy. You really could do with putting the battery on charge asap as leaving it in a discharged state will rapidly sulphate the plates. Then you will need a new battery and a new alternator.

That's what I was hoping to hear, thank you

Alternator is bolt on/off and a guaranteed fix. I didn't fancy messing with the dark art that is ECU!!

Battery should be on charge tonight I hope
