ABS Code 5D8C and the trifecta lights...

I have 04' Z4 3.0i, 228K miles one owner...yup bought it new, and still a solid vehicle... but I've just recently gotten the trifecta light scenario (DSC triangle, low tire pressure, and brake - all yellow)...I used my Innova 3160g scanner to pull codes, it is a "sensor-cluster timeout CAN" message with code 5D8C... I have cleaned all 4 wheel ABS sensors and erased the code, no luck... the code appears about 3-5 seconds after turning on the ignition, appears its going thru some systems checks and failing one to throw this code...hoping its not my ABS/DSC module/pump... there's very little out there in any forums about this particular code, looking for help and save a trip to the dealer if possible.

thanks...a little TLC goes a long way... plus I was raised a grease monkey, my Dad had an auto repair business for over 40+ years...just hope i can find the cure to this one without a trip to the dealer...

fyi...I've already checked the battery and alternator, both check out OK...I have cleared the code multiple times, it comes back about 3 seconds after the ignition is turned on...I can actually hear the DSC pump energizing when I turn on the ignition without starting the engine... When the pump stops, the yellow brake light comes on and the code comes back again...i have seen other posts referencing a brake pressure sensor that could cause this? Any way to check that?

Thanks...James

Does the E85 have sensors (Yaw or rotational) under the drivers seat like the E46? I haven't seen them referenced anywhere specifically for the Z4...

There should be a lateral sensor as I reset mine in INPA when sorting my trifecta lights (mine was steering angle sensor though). Didn't end up finding where it is as it didn't end up being my issue.

The ABS pressure sensors located on the fluid reservoir have been culprits for others - I know that your faults don't point there specifically there but relatively easy place to start.

Not sure what your tool can do but if you get somethung like a C110+ you can see live data - then can check whether the brake pressure sensors (X2) are giving signals. That would narrow down one more variable.

I had the exact same issue and code with my E85, 2003 3.0iSE.

a quick bit or research and a trawl through fleabay and I bought a YAW sensor from a Mini, same part number and half the price of one listed for a Z4 (£20).

plugged it in and lights went off straight away, cleared the codes and its never come back.

the cause of my problem was water under the drivers carpet, coming from door membrane.

the part number for my YAW sensor was 3452 6759412

I pulled out my drivers seat and did not find any sensors except for airbag/impact sensor...is it possibly on the passenger side? i read in another forum that is where it located...

Think I found my problem...the Yaw sensor also called sensorcluster and accelerometer, is under the passenger seat on my 2004 E85 3.0i...I now have another problem to solve, why is my passenger floor board sopping wet?

looks to have been my front drains, found a mountain of compost and leaves...thoroughly cleaned and now water runs straight thru them...just waiting on my used Yaw sensor to arrive now...

Have you checked the roof drains as well? Very common for those to block up :(

OK all... the used YAW sensor arrived, it is installed and my trifecta lights issue is resolved! I have cleared the ABS code 5D8C , and it is now gone as well! Thanks everyone, appreciate the help and lifelines! Now on to my next issue, new post forthcoming :D
