Driving along and bong roof unlocked urgh

Goes away, comes back typical

So going to replace the boot micro switches having read other posts

Anyone got any tips

Also want to get replacement wire just in case, existing needs replacing any suggestions of the wire and where to get it from ?

I bought some extra soft flexible silicone wire, I only got a few meters of black and just replaced one side at the hinge where I suspected it was breaking, I got 20AWG which is probably slightly thinner than the existing wire but apparently there’s very little current running through it.

If I get chance later I’ll try and measure the diameter of the wires I replaced and let you know.

Many Thanks

Strange this morning opened boot and roof module error on screen then boot would not close/lock

Gone back 3 hours later, lent on the boot while cleaning before covering and it closes

Do the micro switches if faulty stop the boot from locking or do I have another electrical gremlin?

As far as I am aware a roof fault will stop the boot opening, once it’s open I would imagine that it’s a different fault stopping it from closing but it’s only a guess really.

Thanks I’m presuming it’s the boot sensors

I have a smart top fitted which the indicator was not flashing before but now is

I’m going to remove this first and see if this unit is faulty

I’ve just finished getting to the bottom of the same code however my roof and boot all worked fine. I replaced the two hall sensors on the underside of the right hand ram. It still gave random bongs. I then replaced the two microswitches either side in the boot.

This is from the post I used.
Hall sensor: £15 Part No. ‪54 34 7 190 735‬ bought directly from BMW (just pretend you have a 1 series convertible to get to checkout).
Connector pins: £2.50 Part No. ‪61131393723‬ I bought them from ebay but I'm sure you can get them from elsewhere.
Connector block: £3? Part No. 8373575-02 I personally reused the one that came off the old part, but one can be bought from aliexpress with a pretty long delivery time, however it means you can just do a straight swap when the part arrives.

After that you just need cut the wires to the correct length, strip the cable, crimp the connector pins to the cable, put the pins into the connector block, then put the part back into the car. It's fiddly, but I found it could be done in place without having to remove anything.

Micro switch

Thanks for the detail, I’ve got the micro switches going to change them and see it that works

Put the roof in service to strip boot and roof the wouldn't work.

Hour later worked really frustrating

When I was doing the hall sensors I had them the wrong way round. The lid would open then stop. They tell the system when the rear lid is fully open or closed and the micro switches confirm it is locked.

Well took the smarttop off and everything worked no bong

Drove to the shop all ok

Drove back all ok

Parked up put roof up then bongs again

Ah well worth the try

How many hall sensors are there to replace?

The E89 part is around £150 each. The part quoted above is the same part without a connection on the end. You can either solder/crimp or buy the pins from BMW. I chose the latter. Then pop the pins out the old connector and put new pins with wires cut to length back in. Identical once done. 👍

Just take a photo or note the orientation of the old sensors. Job done for £35👍

Mine hadn’t failed and neither has Birdy_24s’

We both just removed them to eliminate them from the problem 👍
