a11y's Z4 Roadster (updated pics - April '12)

Im after one with either them wheels or csl reps.

The clio goes tomorrow and then i can PX the Jag :) what are the 2.5/3.0 like compared to a 172?
 
TBH it's so long since I've driven a 172 that it's hard to compare directly. Obvious things like interior and driving position are night and day - the Z4 is near enough perfect (I'd still prefer the wheel to come closer to me but I've got long legs). Clio was well equipped with cruise, climate, half-leather, auto wipers/lights, etc. but the Z4's still got more toys. Z4 IS faster but doesn't always feel it as you don't get the same illusion of speed - different power delivery. 172 would be faster over a lumpy A/B road due to the limited suspension travel. Ownership experience, no comparison :)

You won't regret one if you do get a Z4, best car move I've made so far by a long way.
 
Cheers a11y its good to hear what they are like from a previous 172 owner. Im bored of the jag aready and although its cumfy to drive i need something a bit smaller and something i can mess with.

Do the SE models come with cruise,auto lights,aux in as standard?

Actually, I'm thinking about the Peugeot one mentioned elsewhere on the forum but haven't got around do doing anything about it. No idea where my local french sh*tbox dealer is actually...

Absolutely love the wheels - apart from /M's and maybe CSLs, defo the best wheels for the Zed. They actually have a radical design, just like the car.

Andy - I agree with you about wheels. ///M wheels are lovely and although I know some members have them on non-///M's, IMO the offset looked wrong. CSLs are the best wheel but work best in 19" (obviously anything else are reps anyway) and 19"s aren't something I'd consider on my Z4.

i never used to like CSLs but over time they have grown on me, i especially like dark looking ones. i think if you put 19's on you would have to look at lowering the car as it would perhaps look like its a little too high.
 
:o - I haven't posted any photos in this thread of mine for ages! Plenty elsewhere though, but I quite like these ones I took a few weeks ago but only got around to uploading last night. The Z4 was kicked out of its warm garage home so that I could polish and wax the van inside the garage (space is VERY tight for that). Of course it was raining but it meant some nice water bubbles on the surface...

Ah well, I can't be selling my Z4 anytime soon*: that's me just passed the 3000 post milestone and gained the "lifer" tag :oops:

I sooooo need to spend less time on here, or find a more interesting job!

No point creating a new thread on the same topic, but it's been a while since I could be arsed taking some photos of the Z4. However, given the amount of time I've spent cleaning it there's no way I'm passing up on this opportunity! I'm not exactly known for having a dirty car anyway :oops: but this is certainly the cleanest I've had the Z4 in 3+ years; I even washed the wheelarches FFS!

Procedure was:
* washed: multiple buckets and CG Extreme Bodywash n Wax shampoo
* clayed: Elite mild yellow clay + Dodo Juice Born Slippy clay lube
* washed: again, to remove any clay/lube
* polished: AG Super Resin Polish, hand-applied...
* glazed: Poorboys Diamond White glaze
* waxed: 2 x coats of Collinite #476, applied 24hrs apart
* wheels were cleaned and protected previously over winter when off the car, but an extra coat of Collinite #476 was added
* exhaust tips polished with Autosol
* tyres and inner arches finished with CG New Look Trim Gel
* dash, interior plastics and under-bonnet plastics done with Poorboys Natural Look
* leather cleaned with Cg leather Cleaner and conditioned with CG Leather Conditioner

I've yet to get out and about for some decent outdoor shots, but here's some in-garage pics:

Great batch of photos, although taking a look at your inner wheelarches now makes me think I have been a bit on the lazy side, cleaning-wise... :wink:
 
Great thread! I didn't realise your car came to you via hartlepool (my current domain!) Like the calipers a lot. And I think you already covered this in a prev posting but is your tail tint via film or spray?

Yeah it was indeed Hartlepool! I didn't see much of the place TBH - was a simple in/out job with a trip to J & S BMW Specialists in Stockton for a pre-sale inspection (I bought privately and the seller was more than happy to drive me there). The lights are indeed done with red tint spray plus lacquer: this is my second attempt after I was a bit heavy-handed with the tint spray and had to remove it and start again. They've still got a slight orange tint to them when off but as the pics show it's a bit improvement IMO.

mrlozzer, I wouldn't worry about your arches - that's the first time I've really tackled them to this extent...

Cheers for the comments folks, I quite like looking back and see the changes to my Z4: different wheels, little additions, 3rd set of seats :oops:
