a11y's Z4 Roadster (updated pics - April '12)

Cool - if you're happy with them and I can see a pad impression on the front disc so lokks consistent with being parked up, bit of rust them perhaps just moving the car a few feet without proper braking. I'm always amazed that you can watch discs rust in less than 5 minutes after washing the car.

nice, but the wheels aren't as good as mine though! :poke:

Sorry for the comment, would be boring if we all liked the same thing though :poke:

At heart I'm just a "simple" guy LOL

Nice update photos there :D

It looks good just that little bit lower, just not sure I could live with less bump space... I'd be worried about smashing the car everywhere I drove (it's already borderline in a few places I drive often)

Have you done the sound generator mod yet? I'm down to 25% of the original foam quantity that is right at the end of the tube, and it sounds fantastic (inside at least :) )

looks great drop is huge!
Honestly? I can't see anything of a visual drop and actually had to get the tape measure out to check!

More pics on this thread might show the car off better: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8875

Nah, quite happy with how it sounds as it is - plus I'm sure my good lady wouldn't appreciate any extra noise in the cabin :(

Looks great Ally at least you've got rid of those horrible BMW springs!

WonderMike, thanks for the info.

It may only be 14mm, but it sure changes the look of the car. It looks great! I'm going to do this to my 2006 si roadster too. It not only makes it look better, but it would have to handle a little better with a lower center of gravity. So you only changed the springs, and nothing else?

Thanks. Yup, springs only for the moment but I might consider uprated/adjustable dampers in future depending on funds! I've also got poly bushes to replace some of the big, soft bushes within the suspension and that should do a lot to improve the handling and turn-in - the problem is I haven't got the tools to fit them myself and grudge paying a garage to do it for me...

You big jessy ;)

My partner honestly didn't notice the difference, nor will anyone unless you really open the throttle up, and when you do that, you don't do it for long...

All my work colleagues who have been in the car also think it sounds perfectly fine and then love the growl when you go for it even at low rpm.

If you remove the foam, chop off the last 1/4, then insert just that, give it a go, and if you don't like it, then you can just take it out, bung the 3/4 back in, and leave it at that... honestly 1 > 0.5 made no real difference to my ears... it's the last 0.5 > 0 where it really starts to get going :)

0 foam is just mad, makes your ears feel ready to pop with resonance at full throttle around 3000rpm

Worth a try anyway, I'm sooo very glad I did it because at first I thought the car sounded far too muted even at full throttle at lower rpms, and I think once up over 5000rpm it sounds about the same too anyway (ie, the foam makes no real difference by then)
Just makes the car fun and interesting audibly when you are pushing on but not wanting to rev the balls off it, but still totally quietens off once the throttle closes up a bit.

Better late than never! :D. I finally remembered to upload pics from my phone today and found I had a pic of my snapped rear BMW springs:

2009-02-22BMWrearsprings.jpg

The one on the left (in 3 bits...) was the rear driver's side - it'd snapped once before I bought the car (pre-purchase inspection found that) but it'd snapped again as I was driving along, causing both the broken bits to fall out - I did retrieve them from the road. The one on the right was the rear passenger one and the snapped-off bit was nowhere to be seen. Utterly shocking that this can have happened despite the car having covered less than 18k miles

On another note, I've checked the height drop with my Eibachs now that they've been fitted for 500 miles or so: it's dropped another 1mm at the front and the rear is the same (so exactly 15mm drop all-round compared to M Sport suspension). Hopefully that's them fully settled now.

Ally :)

Wow, what amazes me is that the springs stay seated despite being broken. Why can't they fit better quality ones, very strange.

:scratchhead:

Yep, I can understand how the broken bits can sometimes stay in the car (there's a bit of a cup which the spring fits into), but it's scary to think that the whole car was resting on a jaggy end of spring :o

Latest update (May 2009): finally got around to taking some pics with my own registration fitted to the Z4 - I've had this plate for years but was dragging my heels to actually assign it to the BMW

Cheers, was actually a few weeks ago in and around Dunkeld Hilton (Perthshire) - got married there and got lots of pics of us in the same location under those trees
