Were they still doing the roadworks in Fort William? Was stuck there for-ever ...
Yup :(. They were resurfacing the entire road on the approach to the town centre when we passed through, although these had been lifted when I was back up on Friday.

So next scotland meet is a BBQ in the Sligachan campsite then....
That's not a bad idea - would be an overnighter though. There's the campsite but there's also the bunkhouse (think youth hostel!) at the Slig, plus there's hotel rooms too for those less inclined to rough it. 360-mile round trip from Stirling Services via the Mallaig-Armadale ferry (slightly further via the bridge) so perfectly do-able over 2 days. Something to think about...

If we can get the dates sorted I'm up for this if it was going to be this year it would have to be early august for us ....

Interested noted - leave it with me and I'll find out more about hotel costs, etc. Watch this space. Early Aug sounds suitable too - I'd like to know my wife's work rota and try and plan it so she can accompany me this time. Midges will be pure hell but that's what BBQ smoke followed by a swift retreat into the pub is for. We even made a trip to the Co-op in Portree to buy a bag of ice for our Magners...

Now, back onto my thread :poke:

It is only a 12 hour drive for me as I found out a week ago, so when is the BBQ? :D

Oh yes - did I mention how nice the pictures were?

Great pics Ally

I'm back up there next month for a weekend. We're doing the Ft William to Mallaig steam train. Might have a look at Applecross too, weather permitting

Stayed in Broadford few years back-they closed the pub part of the hotel when the last guests left-which was us! :D beautiful scenery :)

So following on from the official BBQ in Skye thread.

I Might be able to do the very 1st weekend in Aug, any later than that and I'm back in Brazil.

And back to the unoffical thread even Er' indoor's likes the photo's.

OK OK, soon as someone mentions a BBQ you lot are straight in there :). I think we're aiming for early August, but I'm really hoping my wife's work rota allows her to come along this time too. Easy route: Stirling Services - Crianlarach - Fort William - Mallaig - ferry to Skye - Sligachan - overnight - Skye Bridge - fuel stop (they sell super unleaded) - Invergarry - Spean Bridge - Dalwhinnie - Dunkeld - Crieff - Stirling Services. Around 380miles or so...

Unofficial thread, pah

Heading up to loch carron at the end of the month and will go over to Applecross for the first time in nearly 20 years, hope the weather is as good as yours.. Love the Views from the Inn at Applecross.... can't wait :)

We got incredibly lucky with the weather. If we'd been a week later, well you saw what the weather wasy like last week at times! Incredibly lazy photography from the Inn: I was sat at a picnic table in the beer garden just taking photos without even standing up :)
