A rare Dealer surprise

Blimey! Just come out of the dealer expecting a bill of £450 and only paid £183!

I had the car booked in for an MOT, repair to wheel arch lining and the headlamp washer hose wasn't working. The headlamp washer hose they'd claimed wasn't warranty as 'the pipe was stuck on some paint from a previous repair job', which as it occured before my ownership, I couldn't really argue.

However, at some point during the day they'd obviously decided it was warranty after all, as they'd removed it from my bill and put it through as a claim.

I also had a new battery replaced under warranty, as the old one died at the weekend, just under 3 years old (great timing just before the warranty ran out!).

Really pleased not to have to pay for the repair to the headlamp washer hose, as, despite having to accept their earlier explanation, I did become suspicious when the BMW Assist technician who came out to look at my dead battery at the weekend stated that he's seen loads of failures of the hoses.

Only owned the car for less than 5 months (non AUC) but already about £800 of warranty work plus £450 non-warranty (excluding MOT and a non-scheduled oil service I put through for peace of mind)! And I'm still thinking of taking the gamble of no extended warranty when it expires in a few weeks....

BMW Battersea. Second visit, seem relatively ok service-wise (certainly better than my previous Honda dealer experiences) but hideously expensive labour rates as you'd expect...

Thanks - I keep a list in the Zed just in case I get stuck somewhere, I always use the recommended list as a starting point But thanfully not that often).

CAN THIS BE SHIFTED TO 'DEALER FEEDBACK'?

BMW Park Lane Battersea are the best dealership in the network for after sales.

I know one of the techs who is a top bloke (owns an e46 m3 with CSL's and AP's) and he generally looks after my car for me when it goes in.

This particular dealership really suits me as they open at 7am and shut at 6.30 and do early and late drop offs and they deal with a lot of 'city types' who don't like being messed about. They are also BMW owned so have more to lose from crap shoddy servicing.

Just to add my support for BMW Battersea -

I used them for aftersales for my Mini Cooper S and they were excellent about a such a repair - the car had one day of cover left when they found a fault during an MOT, they called me, told me I had a day left and so asked if I would be happy to leave it overnight so they could repair it under the warranty and not charge me on a subsequent visit- which obviously I was.

My new Z4 came from another dealer, but it will be going to Battersea for all it's aftersales...

Put this in 'Dealer Feedback'......

Just got my car back from these guys. Very good, friendly and informative service. No stupid charges (they were emphatic that they do not charge for anything not agreed in advance) and followed my instructions precisely.

The exact opposite of my experience with the Chiswick bunch of w*&kers.

Recommended!
