A racist incident, your thoughts....

I have been called a lot of things in my time... but names (and symbols) only have power if someone allows them to.

The guy has lost his job because he acted like a tw@t... this could have been his first issue, it could have been the 100th that week... no-one knows and it's not the concern of the OP, nor anything that he should be worried or feel guilty about (IMO)





Now, in general the whole knee jerk "racial" thing... if someone is black, it isn't racist to call them black.

If they are tall, you would call them tall...

It's just the same, people make far too much out of the old race card...

I always find it funny that some people are happy with the "n****r" chat, as it's gansta, street, hip... but turn it around and get insulted when it suits them....you can't have it both ways :roll: :roll:

kevinmarkwhite, sorry but the guy who got sacked was at work representing his company. If it was me and company was a supplier of my company I'd be taking the same approach. It has nothing to do with revenge. I would not want a company who services I'm paying for having staff behave like this when doing work for me. I have to say though in this circumstance the company acted properly and correctly and I would continue to use them but if it happened again I'd have serious words about staff training....

This is a fair point, and one that I made in my original post. I guess I'm sitting on the fence:

On one hand, yes, he should be sacked cos what he said was against equility policies etc and cannot be accepted by his company. They already came close to losing business over it, so they had no choice really.

But on the other hand I'm thinking of the guy in question - he has now lost his job due to saying a few words.

At the end of the day though, he did say what he said, and it looks bad. I doubt he meant it in a racist way....but I dont know, he could've meant exactly that.

Like I said, sitting on the fence, trying to see it from both sides, based on the limited details we know.

I grew up in a part of London where the NF (National Front to you youngsters) had their headquarters, and I used t get beat up pretty much every other day. I have read this thread with with great interest, as i am curemtly studyimg sociology and psychology with the OU . TBH it will probably end up in my dissertation.I do not see this incident as or about racism , its about 'power' , who has the power and how that power is put to use, in this instance the black guy used the power cos he felt a bit pissed off . Its a discrace that a man has lost his job thro this petty incident , someone being impatient ,maybe in a hurry and blowing his horn and then getting a reaction . I have seen the racism card used way to many times and to be honest you guys need to get a grip and realise its not racism its group dynamics,as many have said it could have been fat,old or specky c@@t, its speaking in the vernacular. If it was rascism he would have dragged you out the zed and kicked your c@@t in .

Gerry, if I called a client a "[insert prefix here] c**t" I'd get sacked too. Nothing to do with power, just comes down to what is acceptable work place behaviour.

If you work in the public view and are 'effing and jeffing' at members of the public who irritate you, you aren't exactly a glowing example of how the company will want to be viewed.

Make sure you improve your grammar and spelling before submitting your dissertation.

Stark did the right thing. Whatever the motive behind the operative's actions they were wholly unacceptable and he deserves to suffer the consequences. If such behaviour is tolerated it will never be eradicated. People should know where the boundaries are and expect repercussions if they step over them.
