A noise related conundrum

Something I wanted to run past you all that's alluding me...

I have this sort of deep whirring noise, sounds rotary, particularly at 70mph and I'm pretty sure it's near side rear.

Heres the rub, it happens at the beginning of the journey when first getting to 70, lasts a couple of mins max and then goes away. It's sounds a lot like a wheel bearing but I'm used to that being a constant drone rather than disappearing.

I stripped the disc and caliper of that side and all looked in order and I could retract the caliper piston fine on refit. The hub is turning freely with no excessive play in the bearing. The disc was all square and the wheel (at least to the eye) looked to be running true.

Initially the inner shoes for the handbrake were a bit grabbier that side but a bit light sanding corrected that as there was just a small raised spot of dust accumulation causing it.

So I'm a bit stumped at the moment...

Does sound like a brake or bearing issue. Did you check the other wheels to be sure? Hope it's sorted soon. Something in there is expanding a bit and it's going away. Is the brake shield close to touching any thing else?

Wondering if it's the start of a wheel bearing issue, once it gets some heat in there it expands and the noise stops.

Brake shield all good and tyre wear is even also, at least at the moment.

Didn't get the issue today, the only difference was the journey to the motorway was a short residential route
average 30 for ten mins rather than a 30mins-45mins b-road blast prior to motorway.

Hi again folks, turns out this is a binding caliper on the NSR.

Could I get some caliper/advice recommendations when people have time? Found a pair for £55 with Energized Customs on ebay, dunno if that's a bit dubious and perhaps sticking with a known name is best...

Also OEM...is it ATE, Pagid? Not tied to OEM just curious.

Thanks in advance.

The ones on mine are stamped BMW and ATE. But I've also fitted Pagid on the wife's.
Probably a good idea to change both as the other one is likely to be the same age and on it's way out too.
If it's been binding take a good look at the discs too. Obviously you'd be changing pads while you're in there anyway.

I got the Pagid ones from ECP, but they charge a refundable deposit on return of the old ones.

Brake caliper specialists give a lifetime warranty on calipers if you are planning on keeping the car a while it's worth the expense. They will pick up and deliver free of charge should they ever fail again.

Not cheap but they use the absolute best parts and I believe brakes are an important part of the car and worth spending money a bit extra on.

I also went for their premium paint job which also has a lifetime warranty. Should I have any issues they will repaint again pick up and deliver free of charge.

Yeeep, definitely binding caliper one side, oof!

Got a quote with BCS and sorting out that process now, thanks again for the tip!

Should pads have that much corrosion on them? Do you use a harsh cleaner on your wheels with every wash?
Only on two. Because they haven't moved to contact the discs.

The other 2 have a fair amount of corrosion too. Albeit one only at the sides not touching.

When I had my old ones removed they didn't have that much corrosion iirc and those were being used also.

Harsh cleaners do say not to use on discs and calipers, etc.

My point was that these have NOT been used as the calliper was sticking so they didn't touch the disc.

I use bilt hamber autowash and autofoam? Autofoam not everytime and avoid wheels with it opting just for mitt and brushes for out of bucket of autowash

Yea sometimes pads are stuck open and sometimes partially clamping disc, luckily disc is in good shape.
