A new guys rant on BMW

My dealer has a procedure that requires a "walk around" the vehicle to point out to the owner and the dealer any obvious "issues". Same procedure when the car is picked up. They also go over details of any repair or warranty work. If convenient and practical, the technician will also be involved.
I wish we could get that kind of service out here. It could solve a lot of really bad misunderstandings and mix-ups.

Twice now people have asked the very legitimate question of, Which dealership?

I am reluctant to answer this question at this time other than to make some of you feel better by simply stating that the dealership is located in New Jersey.

Why you ask. BECAUSE I DON'T TRUST THEM !!!

They have me over a barrel, I need them to perform any warranty work.

If I can't trust them for something as small as this, how could I possibly trust them on a major repair. Particularly after exposing them.
I hope some of you can understand my dilemma.

On one hand a desire to shout from the roof tops, in an effort to expose them. On the other hand, I HAVE TO CONTINUE TO DEAL WITH THEM.

If you don't I'm going to look for a BS flag.

Banger, it's just NJ. This whole state is like that. Comcast, Car Dealerships, Home Builders, Realtors, Contractors, even the waitresses at Hooters are worthless (as waitresses, anyway)... they all have NO sense of customer service!!! I got my 2003 Z4 at DeSimone and was so disgusted at their lack of customer service during my year of owning that car that I went out to Allentown, PA when I traded it in for my 2008 3.0si.

I've enjoyed the REAL BMW service in San Antonio, Dallas, St Louis, Grand Rapids MI, and now in Allentown PA. If this is your first BMW experience, please do not think that it is normal - it's not.

Oh, yea, on a side note... I've heard that DeSimone has improved their service department since moving to their new location, however, I have yet to have a great service experience with them and WILL NOT go there unless it's an absolute emergency (which it never would be because I have a second vehicle and will gladly pay the extra to have the Z towed to PA to get service if required).

Probably because Holman bought them out and did some minor housecleaning. I've been there a couple times for routine things, i.e. oil change, service 1&2, etc. Haven't actually needed anything fixed under warranty yet (and hopefully won't) but we shall see. Don't get me wrong, still about the most arrogant people you'll ever come across but as long as they do the job right then I could care less. Besides, if I get horrible service I'll just get Mark to make a phone call for me. 8)

Who is Mark?
You met him when you, me and F-n-i got together last year at Cuba Libre and PJs. He has the '03 Cobra convertible. He works for ARI, the fleet leasing subsidiary of Holman. Since he does a lot of in-house work he gets to deal with all the Holman dealerships.

An update to an update.

Today I SMILE!!!

Those of you who have read this thread, know that I have been somewhat (read as very) disappointed in BMW service so far.

Today I bought my Z-4 back on an appointment to correct these problems.

The results.... NO PROBLEMS, Service was very professional, and handled each of my complaints. The work performed entirely to my satisfaction.

When it turned out that the antenna could no be placed in a different location, I was advised of the reason. If I had insisted, the placement would have been changed. However BMW advised that the antenna be placed dead center on the trunk lid. This I can live with.

The work now looks professional and very tidy.

Perhaps my prior experience was an anomaly, a perfect storm of circumstances each adding their weight to the poor results on the first attempt. Let me close by saying that I believe that these events are in the past, and now look forward to a long and happy relationship with BMW.

I just thought you guys should know the outcome.

THANK YOU ONE AND ALL.

Guy at work is dying for a new 135, says he can't wait to get out of his MB as they are so far below the quality of the BMWs that he's owned. Everyone has their experiences. My best experiences with a dealer was with Mazda. I've got lots of BMW dealers to choose from, so when I don't like one, i move to another.
