A Keeper !

Had my second Zed now for over 3 years - regulars on here will know I put it up for sale at least three times during this time but withdrew it after a few days - now finally have come to accept it's a keeper :D Won't bore you with same old pics but just to say it's looks almost as new and has the right engine ( 3.0 SE ) and despite my good intentions is still under 30k miles :D

As for what's it's worth it's not worth replacing - what could you replace it with that would come anywhere near a comparison for the money !

Whilst I don't take it out often I still get a thrill just looking at it - sad old bugger aren't I ?

Good news. Mines very similar (but silver and 50k). Bang for buck there isn't much better, so mines a keeper too!

Mines a minter summer fun car, private reg so people not in the know think it's an expensive car.
I only take it out when it's dry enough to have the roof down, It turns heads (and mine) wherever I go.
Every time I drive it it feels like the first time and I get a real buz.
No way would I sell it for market price, it'll be worth a fortune in 20 years :D
( if I live that long  )

Sums it up - very likeminded - mine is also on a PP - took it out once and a friend genuinely thought it was new !!!

20 years time I'll be 87 - should be near 40k miles by then

I'm ashamed to say that because we were selling the house last summer and my daughters wedding my car did exactly 423 miles between mot's

I'm desperately trying to use it more this year I took it off sorn may the 1st and have been out in it twice
But we will have finished doing up our property by end of August so fingers x for an Indian summer

However my next I buy will be one off the forum probably from a guy who said his was a keeper

. . . Won't bore you with same old pics . . .

Come gov, lets celebrate its 'Keeper' status and see some pics please

Well just to prove I still have it - I've just taken this pic after taking the cover off - you'll notice the delapidated surfboard against the wall to prevent banging the door on the wall - I'm thinking of entering this pic in this month's competition

PS cover is back on !

Do you store it with the roof down?I know people who have the hard top on will have the roof down.Keeping the roof up when not in use in my opinion will keep the fabric nicely taught.
I am the same age as you, last weekend I fitted some msport seats,if I keep spending on the car, mine will have to be a keeper.

It's not stored - I do use it - it just happens that I left the roof down since I took it out last time - usually left with the roof up for the reasons you've outlined .

I've only had mine a year but I think its staying. I do have a slightly different take to you "long termers". When I was looking last year there really was nothing for the £5kish budget I set myself other than the Z4. Being reasonably tall and well built cars such as the MX5 & S2000 were too small and although ideally I wanted a 987S again to land a decent one I would have been spending three times as much.

There was no way the missus would allow me to spend that on a car to sit on the drive virtually everyday, thats the reason my last 987 went five years ago in the first place. I have to say although I initially bought as a financial compromise I haven't been disappointed, pleasantly surprised in fact. I thought the zed would have me longing for a 987 again but its simply hasn't happened. To be far its probably helped there was a five year gap since I last drove a 987 to getting my zed, but other factors come into play to. There is noticeably more space in the zed's cabin than the 987 and the zed interior feels a lot more modern than the Porsche's which looks quite dated to me these days.

All in all there must be a whole host of us "new to zed ownership" folks who have originally bought on "value for money" particularly the pre face lift cars, who have had are expectations surpassed.

Get yourself a couple of carpet tiles and glue them to the wall.
Thats what I have done in our garage, they dont get in the way and if need be the door can be opened as far as it will go without fear of damage.

Good post. Before my current 3.0L Z4 I had a boxster 987 2.7, in my eyes a great looking car and one of the best handling cars I have owned.
I sold it ealier this year, to help fund a wedding, I wanted something two seater and sporty, having owned a Z4 previously and a S2000 I narrowed it down to these. Simply the Z4 offered far more car for the money so we went that root.

They are great cars, and I agree about the interior compared to the boxster. I cannot think of many cars that offer better value for the money, the problem I will have when I sell it, is everything else I prefer is a lot more money but is it really worth the extra layout!!
