There was no way the missus would allow me to spend that on a car to sit on the drive virtually everyday, thats the reason my last 987 went five years ago in the first place. I have to say although I initially bought as a financial compromise I haven't been disappointed, pleasantly surprised in fact. I thought the zed would have me longing for a 987 again but its simply hasn't happened. To be far its probably helped there was a five year gap since I last drove a 987 to getting my zed, but other factors come into play to. There is noticeably more space in the zed's cabin than the 987 and the zed interior feels a lot more modern than the Porsche's which looks quite dated to me these days.
All in all there must be a whole host of us "new to zed ownership" folks who have originally bought on "value for money" particularly the pre face lift cars, who have had are expectations surpassed.
Good post. Before my current 3.0L Z4 I had a boxster 987 2.7, in my eyes a great looking car and one of the best handling cars I have owned.
I sold it ealier this year, to help fund a wedding, I wanted something two seater and sporty, having owned a Z4 previously and a S2000 I narrowed it down to these. Simply the Z4 offered far more car for the money so we went that root.
They are great cars, and I agree about the interior compared to the boxster. I cannot think of many cars that offer better value for the money, the problem I will have when I sell it, is everything else I prefer is a lot more money but is it really worth the extra layout!!
