A hypothetical purchase

So, let's just imagine I could lay my hands on a 2.5i SE (that's the lower bhp version) but it had absolutely hideous wheels that are basically stopping it selling.
It's MOT expires today and a silly low offer may be considered, as it stands, as it's been unsold for a couple of months now.
I have a set of MV1s that could be refurbed, allowing me to sell on the chav wheels to................well: a chav...............
Would have to take a risk on the MOT, but ok with my spanners so it would probably only cost in parts, not labour.

At the end of the day, what sort of ball-park figure would a clean, well presented 2.5i facelift with 12 months ticket and 95k on the clock fetch do we think?
In short, is it worth a punt?

And I do realise that asking a forum of aficionados may not be truly representative as you'll all know the lack of an 's' between the '2.5' and the 'i' means a lot. But does joe public?

hmm.. i was thinking more 4k with hideous wheels and no mot

I’d have agreed with you a year ago but everything seems to have leapt in value in recent times & it will have a new MOT

I opened this with one eye closed thinking it was going to mention a yellow N20

In general I personally don’t think the general public will be clued up on the I/Si I know I wasn’t when looking for my first one and it was explained to me on here. But……….. that may be wherein the issue lies. I think most people, not all, who are considering buying something like that will do a lot more research than say a Focus or an Astra and become aware of the differences.

The no MOT is a complete punt, could cost you nothing but the ticket price, happy days, but could also cost you a grand. The wheels definitely swap out and resell easily but still will technically have a cost attached to it. I’d say somewhere around the £4K mark too, but only for the lack of an S if the buyer is aware of these things

As much as that?
He has no interest at £3800 and WBAC says 2300, but has to have 6 months mot for them.
Well a cheeky punt can't hurt.

Can't find a decent one of those anywhere mate!
Although, of course, I already have a VO one so why would I want to downgrade?

That lock up looks like a reality more and more every day...

:D
Halfway between Attleborough and Lincoln??

There's a thread somewhere for people who've owned 3 or more Z4s I think.
I'm in a rush to join it so I'm trying to fill the drive all at once.
If nothing else it will mean Vall has to learn to reverse the 1-series in and I won't have to back it out into the road anymore.

A cheeky punt can never hurt - good luck.

Whats the previous MOT history like, if it looks ok then £4k is nit unreasonable, swap the wheels and put an MOT on tehcar and it maybe worth £5 to £5.5 if it is clean and tidy

Looking at this totally emotionless the numbers look like this

IF you can get it for 3k & you can sell it for 4k assuming it sails through the MOT & you break even on your wheel swap how long is it going to be sat on your drive for you to make a grand?

Is it really worth it?

Or are you planning on keeping it for that Cash in the Kings Lynn lock up episode in 2057 ? In which case go for it?

i've had 2 x 2.5i facelifts now.

all pre-covid price madness but from memory i had:

2019 - 2.5i SE ruby black 82,000 miles paid £3750 from a dealer - sold for £4000 after fitting some BBS LM replicas & COilovers
2019 - 2.5i Sport carbon black 117,000 miles £3500 on an ebay win - sold for £4000 with some Veeman wheels & coilovers.

Definitely worth a lowball offer of £2300, given wbac offer at £2300 but with an not, then up it to £2500.
At that money, worth a punt I would think.
If you can swap the wheels out cheaply,as you said, and hopefully don't have too much to spend on an MOT,then it would probably sell on at around £4500,ish, with a full mot,and nice wheels/a tidy up

Just my opinion,mind.

I'm surprised you can remember you have had so many Z4s!

And now you have just bought another - that's Z4 addiction in action.

Not everyone wants a convertible for speed, and decent examples of 2.5’s and even 2.2’s have been shifting…. What colour is it and is the paintwork in decent condition? (nice enough for a decent machine polish?).

12months ticket and shiny corrected paint can make a car much more appealing
