a hole at 1000 rpm

My Z4M coupe has a big flat spot or hole at what seems like exactly 1000 rpm. Typical way to make it show is to use the engine to slow the car and get to less than 1000 rpm. Then apply throttle. Doesn't seem to matter if it's a just a tickle or a big push on the pedal - the car picks up nicely, gets to 1000rpm, momentarily stumbles almost feeling like it wants to stall and then continues to take off smoothly from there.

Any ideas where to look? I can obviously avoid the set of circumstances that bring on the fault but in traffic that's not always easy.

IdleControlValve maybe? I believe it 'opens' around this RPM so if it's sticky/dirty may well be causing you issues.
On the other hand, not sure why your hanging around down in the 1000rpm area, change gear and get the revs up a bit ;)

I've read that thread and not sure I have the same issue. The car runs fine otherwise, idles smoothly and pulls away fine from a standstill. Throttle blips in neutral are crisp and clean. It's just that scenario where engine braking is used and the revs drop to below 1000 and then I try to pull away.

What gear are we talking about? Mileage?

Well, could be a multitude of things tbh, see if you've got any stored error codes maybe. I've never felt the need to hang around down in that rev range in any gear apart from 1st so can't give any real world comparison unfortunately
