A few issues

I have a few issues that I wouldn't mind a second opinion on.

I have just racked up 34,000 miles, and am due a time based oil service (2 years). However I think the valve clearances need checking so have opted for an Inspection 1 at Darren Wood beginning of next month. The tappet noise reminds me of an old Talbot at 3k rpm. I'm hoping it is just clearances, and not cam or follower wear. At such low mileage it shouldn't be anything else should it?

Continuing on the noise related theme, I think I have a noisy fuel pump. At tickover it was noisy until I put some Seafoam fuel cleaner in. After 3/4 of a tank of petrol I can hear the pump when revving - quite a similar noise to the tappets. Is this anything to worry about or normal?

Final issue is a blowing exhaust. On start up and revving whilst stationary it sounds as if I have blow somewhere - hard to describe, but very much like a feint blow. I have had the exhaust pipe gaskets replaced, so its not them - I had it rechecked and was underneath when it was on the ramp. Has anyone had any issues with manifold gaskets failing?

I may be getting paranoid - I have just had to have a new gearbox on the A6 - that's after hearing a feint whining noise that developed, so seem to be listening for noises now!

More than likely at that rpm it's the standard vanos rattle, though to be honest it's barely noticeable on my car.
Sure darren woods will look after you, heard good things about them.

Mmmm hard to tell without hearing the noise. Cam/follower wear is like a loud clacking sound increasing across the rev range, would be pretty obvious. Other light rattles are more likely a shim/s out of tolerance or as said vanos rattle.

Its definitely not a clacking or loud noise, so hopefully just valve adjustment needed. The car isn't running as sweet as normal. A lot of people report them running better after the valve clearances have been done, so fingers crossed.

I was hoping as mine is a 2008, so one of the last (built late 2007), and low mileage, it wouldn't be a Vanos issue.

The year makes no difference to the VANOS I'm afraid, you have the same unit as the first M3's built. You will probably have the uprated cam bolts though which is a bonus, the rest will be exactly the same.

On the other point, if it's not loud and obvious and just slightly louder rattle or similar then it's most likely just shimming or VANOS rattle, not the end of the world at all, most suffer from it in varying degrees, a trait more than anything.

Keep us posted , DW is as good a place as any to take your car so at least you will have the answers once its been
Is the engine noise noticeably different to how it was sounding ?

yep, vanos rattle does not mean vanos issue as such ... some seem to do it more than others apparently. On my car between about 2700-2900rpm I can hear a light 'rattle' so to speak, I've been assured this is fairly normal and searching on the net would seem to say the same thing.
No point worrying about it, you'll only scare yourself with the possibilities!...get it booked in and dealt with.

Non of the noises you mention are standard issues for the car...

Darren wood is s great Indy.. They will either put your mind at rest or fix your problems.
