Fair enough, but the point stands that it illuminates after 2 years and only goes away when it's reset - and a convoluted process means it can't be reset accidentally. JE should have had it staring him in the face for ages and obviously ignored itEwazix said:PerryGunn said:

1 ignition off
2 push & hold in left button (daytrip reset)
3 while holding in, turn ignition key into pos.1
4 keep holding button pushed in while "test 1" appears in display
5 after a further 5 seconds oil service/inspection will appear (whichever is due)
6 release button when oil service/inspection are displayed
7 pushing and holding in the button for 5 secs will reset the service interval
8 release button and switch off ignition. When restarting interval should be reset
For the brake fluid follow points 1) to 6) and then proceed as follows:
7 when oil service/insp. is displayed one short push of the "day trip" button will change the display to "brake fluid"
8 when "brake fluid" message is displayed, push in and hold button for appr. 5 secs, which then will reset the brake fluid interval.
9 release button and switch off ignition. On restart the brake fluid clock symbol should be gone.
...... and if you manage that first time you obviously spend too long on video games! it took me about 10 goes after I did my brake overhaul last year

But then he also has a light out bulb on his dash after fitting his facelift rears and not getting it recoded and put tape over it to cover it :roll:

What a read! Glad you've finally got it in for the long overdue service and are running new filters/clean oil and brake fluid now Jonny.
Thank your lucky stars this hasn't caused you any greater problems (well not yet, but sounds like you may have created something of a ticking timebomb!) and also that you don't need to sell it because I doubt anyone on here would go near it with a barge pole now. Such a lovely car on the exterior too

thats a bit harsh, its had 1 service in the 32K miles so at worse its had 32K miles on the same oil. meh... the ex's sisters golf did 55K without any kind of service and was fine. JE's had it done now and by a decent place. so long as he keeps it up im sure it will be fine. i would worry more if we find out he never topped it up or anything but im sure he did at least that.
Seems a bit over the top reaction with some responses re possible damage - at the end of the day it's only done 30k - on a modern engine . I suppose the real negative would be when selling as so much store is put in to service record ( rightly or wrongly ). My 3.0se had 28500 miles when I bought it (2004 model ) but it had 2 yearly oil/ brakefluid changes as well as Inspection 1 - had it not had this , if I'm honest , I would not have bought it despite how good it looked. I did pay top money though so expected such a SH.
I had a old Nissan Bluebird for 7 years and an old Cavalier 8 years - never changed the brake fluid on either - oil change every 3 or so years - both cars never missed a beat and the Nissan never used a drop of oil or water - the Nissan covered about 150k miles and the Vauxhall even more.

There has been some over reactive comments regarding the whole situation. Yes what has happened is not 'ideal' but not the end of the world. I have witnessed many people driving there cars hard stone cold (not saying anyone on this thread or the forum) but I would imagine that would be a lot worse for the engine over time.
Just because a car has full service history doesn't always necessarily mean the engine is in the best condition. I am not saying cars don't require servicing but it's not everything.
I know there's going to be many who disagree, but that's my thoughts on the situation.

While it would be true that not having it serviced is not the end if the world... You need to read between the lines.... Johnny said its been driving bad for sometime-which he ignored... Had an emission light, again may not be related to this... But again something he ignored.
The main thing is he said its been serviced and now feel like its driving better.
