A bit of rust, common, come under warranty?

Hey there,

I just took my car to BMW Wakefield bodyshop and they did everything from there.

I've no idea really on if they will do it or not, it's just the luck of the draw really.

I think a big point for me having mine done was FSH from BMW Wakefield since I bought the car, and also having had a FBMWSH prior to me buying it, so they knew I was a good customer for services there, and other work doing, and buying parts from them.

It's worth going to see how far you get I'd say.

Worst case I think others have had similar fixed for under £200, but a really nice job might be nearer £300. Given how it'll just spread and get worse and harder to remedy it's probably best getting it done sooner than later!

Cheers

Dave

I've got some bubbles on my driver side rear wing. http://s95.photobucket.com/user/tuco4/media/DSC_0004_zpssau3cn6i.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2

Are these likely to be covered on my 2004 car ?

I've got a little rust bubble on the rear bumper of my 08 Z4 - gonna take it into Wakefield BMW on Monday for them to have a look at - thanks or the recommendation, didn't think about wit being covered under warranty until I read this thread.

Fingers crossed.

Have to take the car to Martlesham now to have the paint checked for any previous repairs, Hope i get a good result out of this.

rear bumper is plastic though?

Yeah I'm not sure they'll cover plastic painted stuff on warranty.

My repair is still looking really nice, I just need to buy some double sided sticky pads or something to hold the rubber down tightly at one side, it's still a bit raised vs how it should be.

Hi, my 04 Z4 3.0 had both rear quarter panels replaced under warranty last year, the invoice was for £3500! Same problem as yours. Car had fbmw service history which helped. I asked to see the old panels and sure enough there was corrosion on the underside. I dealt with Bowker Preston. Dell.

Ah, very wierd then, wonder what it could be. :s

My passenger's door and bonnet were replaced by bmw under warranty at a cost of 4900. Fell out the seat when they showed me the cost of the parts and labour. But rybrook were brilliant to deal with.

How long should i wait before contacting my local BMW dealers about a decision ?

A bit longer I think... but certainly worth giving them a ring as soon as we hit April.

The guys who did mine were pretty sure this was rare, but it's clearly fairly common on the rear wings. I'm not sure why but I'm assuming ingress of water and/or rubbing somewhere.

£3,500 for new rear wings seems steep. I bet you can get mint ones from a breaker, re-spray them (only small) and refit for £1,000. BMW always have super expensive prices vs good independents and a bit of shopping around for parts etc.
