A bit of rust, common, come under warranty?

I'll wait until April then give them a ring, if I'm not fortunate then I think I'll try a a local body shop or look for a Titan Silver wing on Ebay. Thanks for the advice

Hmm, just looking at my rear wings again.

The repair just behind the drivers door (offside) is starting to bubble quite a bit where they repaired it.

I guess I can get it re-repaired given it was only done about 8 months ago, but it's a bit of a faff having to drive there leave the car and have a courtesy car.

Tempted to go to a local well regarded body-shop and get a quote instead. OK it'll cost me but I don't want it to be bubbling AGAIN in 8 months because BMW can't do a good job.

I know that they'll have rules on the repair longevity, but given my experience with Leeds/Harrogate BMW lying to me, and even BMW UK lying to me, I'm not sure I want to risk going to an unmotivated repairer even if it's a proper BMW approved one. I'd rather pay something and get an excellent job, than pay nothing and get one that is failing again in 8 months time!

The other side looks fine though, but that side wasn't as bad to begin with.

Anyone else had a proper BMW repair fail again?

Cheers

Basically the outside looks fine, and they did a good job of the paintwork itself. But it's all for nothing if they didn't access the back of the panel where the rust is as it's just sneaking back around.

With the roof in the way it's obviously pretty hard to do it in situ.

But why they didn't just pop the wings off to do it is beyond me... given the paint cost, prep work and all the other associated costs, adding an extra few hundred quid for doing it right, vs doing it wrong, seems stupid.

I'll post some photos later. I'll also give them a ring to see what they say.

But it's frustrating as it's a 1hr drive there, so 2.5hr round trip for a check. Then another 2.5hr trip for taking for the work, then another 2.5hr trip for pickup. So a good few days of my time are disrupted. Then add in fuel costs.
And the potential for them to just say 'no' this time.

Has anyone had the rear wings off? I guess it's bolts mostly and no tack welds?

Might be worth trying to find a pair of rear wings off a late model car and just swap them over.

Stevie.w has had the rear wings removed from his only last week or so to get them painted - worth PMing him. If they're anything like the front wings they're bolted on, but I think I recall him saying it was a bit of a PITA to get them off.

Roof off a bit to get to fittings to take wings off to get them done right/swapped isn't such a big issue, as long as it's doable at all without causing too many other issues.

While I'm there doing it I can give it a good clean out and whatever else.

In the end either I do it, or someone else does it. Or I just trade it in when I sell it but I'll probably lose out a lot more going that route vs selling it privately to someone who wants a good condition model and is willing to pay more for one with jobs done right.

I'll get some pics soon :)

Cheers

Car dropped off and I now have a Mini 1D which is much more comfortable but feels like I'm driving a van.

Just had a call from BMW saying the rust is far worse than expected and I'm getting a new quater panel, so i wont have to worry about any missed rust on the back on the panel

My baby is back looking much better :D and to top it all off even though i had the mini for 10 days they only charged me for 1 day (£15) insurance cover
