9k miler...worth the ask...?

A blue roady with 9k has popped up on PistonHeads with a £32k price tag. Reasonable spec, impeccable service history.

Worth it do you think..? My opinion is you either buy it and store it, which would be a shame, or PPF it and have it as weekend low mile minter to use and keep as nice as possible. I can’t see the point in it if it’s going to be used a lot just for the mileage. Just Imho obvs.

I'm sorry but I think 32k is way out and I personally can't see where they come up with a figure like that, nice car or not a nice car. :o

Well I suppose it's the nearest thing (and just up the road from me) to a new Z4MR you can find these days, and a new MR cost over £40K back in 2006!

But you could hardly use it at all without killing it's value - after all the dealer in Yorkshire has 2 with about 30K miles on them for £17,500 so on the face of it just 20K miles could cost £15K. :o

If I had the money and was in the market for one I could do a couple of thousand miles a year in I'd go for one of those (especially as they don't have black seats).

At the end of the day it only needs one person to want it that much, a bit like the Ms that Hexagon have had in stock. But it may take a while!

A bit like the 5,000 mile M Coupe that is up for £37,990 on Pistonheads.

It's a good buy either way. If you don't use it much it'll have half a chance of appreciating rapidly. If you add 5k miles a year you'll still be under 30k miles in 4 years and it'll be worth £20k then. Show me new z4 that will lose less money over the same mileage.

Who ever pays that kind of money must be a collector who intends to store it and hardly use in the hope that it will appreciate further with time or at least stay the same price. Put any kind of mileage on it and see that value plummet. Personally I think it's bonkers paying that kind of cash for it when right now although prices are firm and there is a possibility that it will become an appreciating classic, it isn't 100% there yet.

Reminds me of year or two ago when I was looking for an investment property and went to see a new luxury development in Peterborough where they were asking around 190K for a 1 bed flat, when you could at the time buy an up market 1 bed for around 100 to 120K. The developers reasoning was that Peterborough is on the up and will go up in value, so I said to the sales woman so what you are charging me now for the what the value of the unit will be in 5 to 10 years?

I doubt now that cars like these are going to be an investment as the World moves to make the internal combustion engine a thing of the past. ☹️

Well eventually they might - Stanley steamers cost a bit more than that.

That’s exactly my thinking too.

Quite agree. Sales pitches using terms like "appreciating investment", "better than money in the bank" collectors item
etc etc really do not apply to our Z4's . Especially in this "new" normal that we are all just beginning to experience.
Our cars are owned by enthusiasts, and most of them, like me, are quite impecunious :(

It could be worth buying if you hang onto it for say 17 years - only increase the mileage by a couple of thousand, you may then make a small profit.

I remember buying a 1 owner M Roadster in 2002 that had done 4,500 miles for £23k @ a dealers and what would that cost now with a couple more thousand miles added, perhaps £28k.

Another perspective I guess, but knowing there are cars out there at those (ridiculous) prices helps the value of the rest of our cars, no? It feels like below 80k miles, the price definitely seems to go on condition and service history more than exact mileage... reflecting a more realistic appraisal of the car and how its been cared for... feels like a good thing for us enthusiasts who really like to keep our cars in the best shape we can

The M roady was approx £44k on launch, I wonder how many people would buy a brand spanker these days if BMW rolled out a run of them again exactly as they were. I’d wager many would, so this car seems pretty much spot on no..?
