Had a quote from BMW in Tunbridge Wells for an Inspection 2 on my Z4MC. I was going to go to an independent but realised the car currently has full dealer service history. So I thought it might be worth it's weight in gold to have it reach Inspection 2 with a dealer.

£799 sounds expensive though even for a dealer, so should i do it or does anyone have a recommendation for a different dealer west Kent, east Sussex way.

I know there are good independent places around but as this is the biggy I thought I'd play safe.

£799 sounds pretty good for down there. Think the cheapest is about £650 from a dealer and the only one that comes to mind at that price is Batemans in grange over sands which is about a 600 mile round trip. Ring them up see if they will match. £800 sound not bad tho could be much worce.

Have you tried:

To see if you have a local dealer participating.

Nothing local, closest is 140 miles away, cheapest is £245.05 - how is that possible?

Run a mile from £245

I thought that too, prob i correct pricing, but you can always confirm by calling the dealer themself, as they are all main dealers.

Not in Tunbridge Wells, but a nice day out all the same. Emtec in Salisbury are a great independent BMW specialist and offer the inspection 2 at £509 http://www.emtecsalisbury.com/prices.htm. I guess it depends on how much the main dealer stamp is worth in the long run?

Need to be two days out, car need to be stone cold for Inspec II

Some nice B&B's and pubs !

Wouldn't need a B&B, wife has a job down there so we have a flat nearby. But I'm erring on the side of the local dealer at the moment.

we all know deep down, ins 2 is a mighty con, if you read the bmw service sheet, so much of it is just check this , check that, they say need it thenight before for checking valve clearances but some do it all in one day. but worse than that, does it actually include oil and oil and air filters in the price or are they extra, the same for plugs, as from bmw plugs are 100quid plus but 60 from a factor, or less. look at the service sheet and operations with a 1 next to them are stated as extra, suprisingly these include, valve clearances, coolant change and brake fluid change, also they say gearbox and dif fluid change at inspection 2 so are these fluids included ,because if not i can see the quoted prices of ins 2 possibly doubling. local ind, here, bmw treained making good living and charging 350ish for ins 2, going to check exactly what is included.

just got quoted 1085 at ocean plymouth, bit vague about what is included, when i mentiond dif she said they would change fluid, when i mentioned gearbox she said they would change it, what if i had'nt asked ? have asked them to email me the service schedule so i can see for myself

Had the inspection 1 done at Ocean Last October, £981, included all the sundries. While to wait for the Inspection two I'm happy to say. If you have found a good local indie please PM me details.

Not bad for insp 2,even in Scotland(where its generally cheaper than further south),Insp 1 costs between £600(with discounts) and £800...insp2 is between £800 and 1100!!

richie b, thats sensible money, the stealers are just pricing themselves out of the market, all with the threat of the service history stamp blackmail thing, a lot of us having stretched ourselves to buy the cars just cant afford to pay those 1000 pound plus service charges, hence a lot of good indis are stacked out with work and providing a very necessary and welcome service with i think sometimes a lot more personal and conciensious service than the dealer provide, with their often elitest and condiscending attitude and manner. we would all like the stamp in the book, butnot at any cost, when we come to sell our cars, people can see the ones that have been cherished and the ones that have been neglected not by looking at the book but by looking at the car and its keeper
