£799 for inspection 2?

It was at the BMW dealers at Milton Keynes j14 of m1 and they were very polite and friendly too? I do need to have a couple of issues to sort.

They have priced me £47 + vat to Change the brake fluid ...

£157 + vat to change rocker cover as it has a small leak and

££260 + to have the diff greased !! I think they are well priced.. What do you guys think?

Its all a mighty con. Dealers hike their prices as people still believe a full dealer history means something. I've never owned a car where i've had any work done by the dealers, they've always gone to specialists - mainly as they're usually ex dealer mechanics anyway.

we all know deep down, ins 2 is a mighty con, if you read the bmw service sheet, so much of it is just check this , check that, they say need it thenight before for checking valve clearances but some do it all in one day. but worse than that, does it actually include oil and oil and air filters in the price or are they extra, the same for plugs, as from bmw plugs are 100quid plus but 60 from a factor, or less. look at the service sheet and operations with a 1 next to them are stated as extra, suprisingly these include, valve clearances, coolant change and brake fluid change, also they say gearbox and dif fluid change at inspection 2 so are these fluids included ,because if not i can see the quoted prices of ins 2 possibly doubling. local ind, here, bmw treained making good living and charging 350ish for ins 2, going to check exactly what is included.

I asked about oils filters plugs etc and was advised they were all included, I see some I2's quoted as excluding the valve clearance bits.

I have a few hundred miles to go yet but I'm thinking it might just be worth it in the long run to get passed I2 with a full BMW history.

Andi.

North Oxford just charged me £946 all in. Including cleaning up a creaky parking brake and removing some stones from the R & R lower shield(whatever that is) which were causing a slight rattle at idle. I'd asked them to investigate these and give me a copy of the valve clearances. Plus a 320d Coupe M Sport to play with for a day and a night. Great service, quite happy. The car feels great but I'm quite pleased that there's a while until the next Insp II!

Mine's due this month and have had a bit of a phone around, and got the first one down from £1150 to £950 (Williams Loyalty discount + BMWCC discount) but couldn't/wouldn't go any lower.

Had almost decided to not bother going to the dealer at all and to take it to my specialist, but that's still £500 plus a tank of petrol each way, so decided to see what was on offer at the MainDealerDiscount website. I was surprised that there wasn't anything local, but found a couple that were offering it from £700-ish depending on the date you required (last minute ones were £650 if you can get to Rybrook Warwick).

Finally settled (due to time/dates/location) on one in Stoke for about £750 - no courtesy/hire car included, but there's an Enterprise Rent-A-Car next door where I can get something for £25 for the 24 hours I'll need it

Unfortunately the only date I could get that was convenient for me & them was 28th December (dropping off on 27th) - which will mean my normal Christmas/New Year hoons will be curtailed a little

When my ins 2 is due I will use my friends garage, he's not an ///M specialist but has worked on Aston, Mercedes, Ferrari, Jaguar, ///M's etc as well as everyday cars and has a great reputation in the area.

I know him very well and he can, and will do a proper job at sensible money, I don't need the main dealer stamp with all their free coffee and suits and plastic smiles, my car will get as good a service and indeed better IMO

All good as long as you don't plan to sell or trade in.

First question I was asked when trading the X5 in - "Does it have full BMW SH". If not, they were not interested what so ever.

I'll take my chances PVR, it wouldn't bother me that a car hadn't got main dealer history as long as it had been done correctly with supporting paperwork, i know my friends garage and he'll do it properly, there will be no horror story with him, he'll do exactly whats required to the letter, each to their own I suppose .

Same does not apply to Chandlers BMW.

They might say one thing, but then do another.

I know this has been debated many times before but the money saved on a good reputable Indy would offset the extra spent on main dealer servicing when it comes to resale time. It's widely known that there's an "m" tax and we are blatantly ripped off at main dealers.

I'll be going Indy from now on.

I called Sytner Nottingham this morning for prices,

Inspection 1 is £832.35

Inspection 2 is £1082.45

They need the car for 2 days each time they said, I forgot to ask if the price included VAT sorry

Pricey! That almost rivals my old TVR for servicing...I think I've invested in the wrong car! :D I wonder how much I could get a nice 4 pot zed for...I have a habit of buying cars I can't afford to run

Just had my inspection 2 done for about £750 (main dealer discount price) and can confirm everything went well.

Because of the 'cheap' price, I was worried they'd cut corners, so I used my old UV pen/light test (on microfilter, air-filter, couple of spark plugs, cam chest gasket), and can happily report that there's no sign of any UV pen on the areas I marked - with the exception of the mobility kit foam which is now well out of date, but would have been replaced at my cost anyway and I can order/replace that myself.

Took a day longer than expected due to the wrong cam cover gasket being delivered/ordered/supplied, but they extended the hire car without quibble and I picked it up today.

Car needed 3 shims (1 intake & 1 exhaust on cylinder 6, and 1 exhaust on cylinder 2), but that's not unexpected at 75k miles. Was also notified that the tyres, pads & discs have plenty of life in them - well they should as the pads & discs were only replaced 4 months ago and the new tyres are less than 1 month old.

I could have got the I2 done for about £680 if I'd been able to take it to BMW Warwick on a Tuesday night for a Wednesday service, but that wasn't possible with my work schedule and the extra 150 miles would have cost another £30 anyway.

Now to get on with the Simota intake :poke:
