.

Interesting information on the exhaust 007. If it sounds anything like the M's (quick mention for your boss - I see what you did there) as you say above then I am going to love it. Where I live you can't race around chasing Spectre agents all the time, so it's just as important how it sounds when you are cruising around town with Miss Moneypenny.

0011 days until I find out now

Thanks for that James, told me just what I needed to know. Andyj what colour and spec have you gone for? Mine will be another 3 months yet, bet you're clock watching right? :D

May !

That's seriously good planning.

Cheers Ronk but you won't see the bloodshot eyes, biting nails and nervous twitch waiting for it and being being without a toy if I sell the M

Durrh yep there it is all written out  And I saw the vid a few weeks ago too.........that's it the hell with it i'm writing the day off and going home to watch Jeremy Kyle. Nice car though Andy, there was 1 in the showroom in orange, looked v v nice

Glad you liked the Orange John. I saw only 1 VO Z4 in the metal before pulling the trigger and that wasn't the same model, didn't have the same interior and had black wheels...

So ordering this one, especially with the Black roof was a bit of a punt. Luckily (we saw it Saturday) it looks every bit as nice as I ever dared hope.

They are striking in the flesh definitely, I test drove a 2.0m sport in orange the other week, didn't have the black roof though, it def looks better with the black imo. Did you consider a 35i for the manual box at all? I do like the bmw manual, light clutch and smooth change, but the DCT is very tempting too, toying between the two, only got a few days left to make my mind up.

Of all the aspects of the 35iS the DCT box is, in my opinion, the single best thing about the whole package.

From someone who has never owned an "auto" before and only ever driven them when in America.

:D.

I'm rarely out of full auto - the car is better at changing gears at the right time than I ever was :D

Jasey is right, the DCT is one of the best things about the car. I never considered any other option that didn't include it. Plus I have just spent the last 3 years driving a DCT 35i, so I'm not just guessing, this comes from experience.

Interesting and it's a tough one tbh, I had an e85 3.0si and my first ever auto and after a while longed for a manual again, but I hated the thumb push change down so it could be that that's making me wonder about the sense of another auto, also the DCT will be so much better than a regular auto i'm sure and that's backed up by you chaps applauding them, plus they've got the proper left and right paddles which I would use most of the time rather than full auto so at the mo I'm 60/40 for the DCT.

TBH if I'm using manual mode i use the gear stick for up/down shifts - unless I'm driving in straight lines or very slight corners - turning the wheel and trying to use the flappers is a bit of a lottery as to which way you send the gearbox tbh :D.

Full auto 98% of the time and switch the comfort/sport mode button to set how sharp you want the gear changes to be

Hi John I only had a test drive in my 35i but the DCT was a must have after chatting to a few members who said it was amazing and even with my brief drive it felt amazing :) fingers crossed I should pick it up next week :)

It depends heavily where you live. As I'm only 12 miles from London I tend to use Auto 90% of the time too. But then this is no ordinary Auto, and just the use of the word gives you the wrong idea.

I too HATED the thumb down shifts. Luckily BMW had a sanity check and now that mistake is all history. This will definitely mean more use of the manual controls.

Two Andy's picking up in the next week / two ? Are you buying the 35i mentioned above Andy ?

Andy :D

Andyj you've hit the nail squarely on the head, where you live, i'm in the peak district and there's some pretty brill [albeit dangerous] roads up here and the time I go out is a night in the week and a Sunday night after all the tourists are at home watching Downton abbey, so the chances of stretching the fly by wire throttle a bit are there, but you have to be careful, there's still a lot of cyclists and tractors about in the evening. From a pure driving point of view i'm thinking manual but on the other hand I want to slow up and cruise a bit more hence leaning to DCT. It's a shame no dealers around had a 35i or 'is to try. Suspect i'll go DCT Andya1, no one seems to have a bad word on it, it's good you aren't wondering, i'm driving myself mad deciding! :headbang:

John,

I'm sure you realise that the DCT gearbox IS a manual, but with 2 clutches and the next gear always ready. Instant gear changes with no loss of power. As BMW let you tune it's characteristics with the different modes this isn't an Auto how we traditionally think of one.

If you have still have doubts I'm sure you must be able to find somewhere to give you a demo. If not in the Z4 then how about the M3/4 ?

Btw I'm very jealous of those roads you have to play with. If we had them down here there would be a hidden speed camera every 200 yards :o

AndyJ I also live near the Peak District and use those roads a lot in the summer months both in the Z4 and on my BM motorbike, And believe you me there are plenty of speed camera's here, even a helicopter patrol on the famous Cat & Fiddle road at the W/Ends, the trouble is the only roads where there are no camera's are the bumpy twisty little roads, and there's no way you can utilise a 340 bhp 35is along those and and keep it on the black stuff.

Hi Andy

Yes I am hopefully picking up a 2009 35i in black with red leather and only 23,400 miles on the clock
