Not sure if serious? I can't say I've had any slipping around in my SE seats, or felt anymore snug in sports seats.

@JE, can I just ask, and this isn't intended to be provocative, why you want a 340 BHP engine? You've posted in your Essex meet thread that you won't go over 100mph, you don't do track days or try for fast Santa Pod runs, so, in all seriousness, what do you hope to gain from spending 'silly money' chasing a power upgrade...?

I'm not saying extra power is a bad thing but, if you're after better round-town usability, you should be looking at something that gives you more torque at 'normal' revs rather than something that delivers lots of BHP at revs that you'll never use

Without spending 'silly money', it might be possible to change your rear diff to a higher ratio, this should give you better acceleration (but a lower top speed). However it would mean that, compared to now, at any given speed (in the same gear), you'd be using more revs (and more fuel). On the plus side, if the diff ratio is carefully selected, it may mean that you're spending more time driving near peak torque production which will make the car feel more responsive
 
JE's an enthusiast and keen to know how others think about his options - and that makes for an interesting Forum.

Changing major items like an engine must be a big step and however much money you have available, it still needs mulling over and great consideration, so seeking other's thoughts and opinions as decisions are made makes sense to me - even if it's something that's gone over many times.

Encouragement comes through this Forum in spades, even when it's advice to make a decision! There's a connection with this car that some of us find bemusing but I get it and however illogical it might seem - it's life - it's varied and life would be boring without such differences!

Don't get disappointed JE with some of the responses - none of us always make the right decisions and there's loads to learn on this forum - some of the posts are made through frustration over what doesn't make sense to others and they are trying to help you see this.

Don't be too quick to make assumptions based on your own experiences only as well though - we are all guilty of making that error. . .

So take in what's offered and then make your decision. Sometimes the only way to learn is to go through with your decision and deal with the outcome. . .

For 9 grand you could have an incredible collection of rare wheels (all which you could fit to your zed btw, actually making it unique) and then sell on for a profit at that.

Swap all the parts over to an M, get yourself some tidy wheels, bag it and be happy. (You can save some money and do the swap yourself, unless M-Style hook up a decent price)

But as has been said by most of the members on here, it just isn't economically viable to pour money into it anymore regardless of what affection you have for your zed.
 
I can see the appeal in adding more power... His car has all the bling, but at the lights an average golf diesel will cover his car is soot.

JE obviously has his mind set.. So instead of making a mockery i'll give some support... But one thing... If you go down this route... Learn about engines fast as you will lose reliability and when things go wrong you'll be in a better position if you know what to do.

The only kind of people who say 9k is' not a lot of money' either have no concept of money or are actually millionaire's...in which case we wouldn't be talking about a Z4!

In all seriousness though, I read the last thread on this same topic, I still stick with the buy an M but you wanna keep your car, then the only real option is to implant an M engine. All the forced induction options will bring far too much hassle and 'off-road' time fixing it when it goes wrong, which it will. So drop an M in, easiest of the options.
 
Are you planning on keeping this car forever JE?

I've never bought a car new but can imagine there is something a little more special knowing that no one else has driven it.

So can kind of understand your passion for making the best of it.

I was just about to post something about how bored I am with everyone bashing you Jonny - it's not in keeping with the spirit of this forum tbh. But I'm glad I checked before posting as it seems you've said it yourself in a much more succinct and direct manner :lol: :thumbsup:
 
There's an engine on m3 cutters JE... I linked to it earlier. Just do it and fix the problems as you go along if you have the funds to do so. :D

Jonny if you have the money and it will make you happy, just do it.
You're aware of any potential problems sticking a different engine in could cause and if you're happy to deal with them if they arise then what's to think about? It's your car, do what you want to do, not what others think you should. Good luck to you mate.

Just thinking the exact same thing myself...it's your car ...your money...and your decision..if that's what you want to do mate ..like Carol has said ...good luck to you.. :thumbsup:

JE, what you really need is a ME109 Messerschmitt engine... don't forget the brakes though

6 pages into this thread and I was losing the will to live, skipped to the end, crazy proposition IMO but its your car so you can do what you want, buy the engine etc and do a build thread, hope it goes well :thumbsup:
