I think the PH article is aimed at people who buy stick on tat for their car and is pointing out they could have a much better/faster/nicer car if they added what they were going to spend on modding the one they are looking at now.
I understand that all the subjective stuff about cars affects us all to a greater or lesser extent, hence there are people who have spent 50k on
A new Cayman
A fourth hand ferrari
An E-Type Jag
a Peugeot 306 with a large sound system, lambo doors, a whaletail and full carcept bodykit.
A nice comfy Mercedes saloon.
It'd be dull if we all had the same car wouldn't it.

I like the idea of a 3.0D engine (whoever mentioned it previously).

I have always thought a Z4 with a powerful Diesel engine would be good.. my Friend has a new 330D and its quicker than my coupe but still does 50Mpg if driven carefully on a long run, sounds ok too. Though I would guess anyone who can afford to spend thousands on an engine swap would not be interested in a few mpg here and there!

That was me - I love the shove-in-the-back torque of a powerful diesel and it would make for a perfect daily driver. Certainly more interesting than turning one standard car into another standard car in exchange for large quantities of cash...
