57,687 G29s will be sold in Europe and US ever..

Found an interesting database of car cales here https://carsalesbase.com/

Using the data I created a spreadsheet here..

https://www.dropbox.com/s/cbga1knavsi1ymy/BMW%20US%20and%20Europe%20Z4%20sales%20data.xlsx?dl=0

So according to that database and excluding rest of the world sales you can say:

1) The E85/86 out sold the E89 by 2:1 (168,685 to 84,906)

2) The US loved the E85 much more than the E89 (they bought almost as many as Europeans (4/5hs) whilst they only bought about 1/3 of the E89s compared to Europeans

3) 23,307 G29s were sold in 2019, 2020..not a bad figure in 2020 considering COVID, BMW 2021 H1 overall sales figures are up 35% 2021 on 2020

3) If G29 sales last as long and follow the same pattern as the E89 then 57,687 will be made

4) Americans still only love them as much as E89s in terms of ratio US/EU buyers

So broadly Steyr/Magna are making 3/5 G29, 2/5 Supra so looks like a total of about 80,000 cars could be made..about the same as the E89

So from a sales perspective not radically different from the E89..looks like the cloth roof didn't bring the Americans back in their hoards.

From what I can see it seems the ratio of M40i to the other versions seems much higher than the blends that the E85 and E89 saw..

Discuss..

I once heard about a guy who, with genuinely good intentions of improving his romantic relationship, 'created a spreadsheet' to inform his other half of her failings.
Guess how that turned out?
That's helpful!
How does that relate to the info provided?
I don't thing the OP is out to woo anyone tbh.

I could be wrong...........................

That's what always come to mind when I hear anyone say that they 'created a spreadsheet'
Funny in my head.
Sounds like an entertaining place to be. :D

It’s not just the Z4 that’s seen a loss of sales, the car buying public don’t want two or for that matter four seat convertibles, they just want SUV’s. If there’d been an EV convertible, that’s not stupidly expensive or the Fiat 500 I would have bought it, but they’re not making them :(

I guess I’d regarded the G29 as a sales flop but the numbers say otherwise…seems it’s tracking relatively closely the E89 especially if you aggregate the Supra numbers..

When I looked at UK sales was surprised as to how the M40i numbers swamp the others..that is the opposite way round to the E89..

As I’ve never really been in the market for a G29 I’ve never studied the price / features /models trade off.. :tumbleweed:

(Just listened to people whinging about first world problems about the toilet pack vs comfort pack etc  ) :poke:

Welcome to 2021. People don't want 'look at me' cars that are priced below £68,000 any more, they are more concerned with everyday living. The 'big fish in a small pond' is unfortunately the G29 Z4. Now, the E86, that is a true 2 seater car which is respected as an oldie but classic Z4.

I thought the e89 was a borderline flop for BMW after the e85/86? That’s why the g29 was a collaboration with Toyota.

I could be wrong though. ;)

Does anyone know what's happened to Lavazza, he appears to have deleted all his posts for some reason

There's a saying I heard a lot in the RAF.
'If you can't take a joke, you shouldn't have joined up!'

Got to listen to a man who had his boss to go do the getting shot at part of the job. :D

Meanwhile back in the thread. Interesting that the M40i sells so well in comparison. Especially as the entry models are much closer in performance terms, than they were in the 85 era. Never really looked at 85 pricing. Was the ///M a more expensive car to buy new, in comparison to other 85s

Reminds me of the old joke about how important the stars are to the armed forces.

The army sleep under them.
The navy navigates by them.
The RAF rate hotels by them.

Yup!
I may be daft, but I'm not stupid. :D

A Squadron Warrant Officer once said to me "Welcome to 39 Sqn DDT"
Then he wandered off. About a week later I discovered it meant Don't Do Tents :D

Is that why most SUV's now come complete with more bling than a late 90's rapper? People still want a "look at me" car, but now it's more about size than sportiness.

If anything, the world is more driven by aspirational consumerism than it ever has been, but sports cars aren't fashionable any more.
