50" LED TV Deals..

I bought a Samsung UE50H5500 yesterday from Currys for £529
Set it all up this morning and I'm very impressed with the picture quality and smart tv fasility.
It has freeview HD which is as good as my sky HD picture.
The sound like most modern tv's is lacking, it isn't too bad when i'm watching just normal ariel digital hd tv channels but is a little poor on satalite channels but this is not the tv's fault but how the sky box sends it's audio signal.

I'm now looking at getting a sound bar.
I like the deep sound of SONOS sound bar and it being able to play music streamed from any of my divices, the only problem with it is the price at £599

Anyone on here have a SONOS sound bar or know of another that is as good as but cheaper ??

I've had 2 soundbars both Yamaha and both fantastic. The YSP-2200 I have now was the absolute best on the market a few years ago. I definitely recommend any of their range as my entry level HTY-750 I bought some years ago at a budget £100 is still amazing.

I looked at the UE50H5500 looks a reasonable set but the LG mentioned previously gives you so much more functionality for your money..

But I like the fact that you can stream music to the sonos systems and add more wireless speakers in the future.
Just wish they we're a tad cheaper

Fair enough, I'm not up on my streaming tech but I do know Sonos were the leader. Richer Sounds will definitely be able to advise you better. For TV and PC though my Yamaha is amazing..

I see the yamaha YAS203 has bluetooth so could use that to connect my music device through it :wink:
It also comes with a sub and can get them from Richersounds for £350
This gives me more options to think about

If your current TV is 47" you definitely gotta aim for a 60" :evil:

I want to upgrade mine at the moment, and can't really find one i want.

I don't really care about 3D and Smart, as i have sky, apple tv etc so no need.

Hopefully ill find one soon

Haha I'd love to but we have a 60" downstairs and theres no way it would fit in my bedroom (17 x 12)

Looking through the appropriate viewing distances I should be going for a 42 - 58" so 50" seems like the sweet spot..

Just torn between 4K or not as buying and selling tvs is a bit like with cars. Buy high, want all the features, sell low after a few years and then go through the whole struggle again! :roll:

I can then re-evaluate in 6 months when I change bedroom.

Thanks for everyones help. If I had gone for a 50" for my room right now I would have bought the LG 50LB560V from currys for £499 / the 47" version from richersounds for £469 ..

Basically the same tv as I bought but mine was the 5500 which is a smart tv.
I can't realy fault the picture quality of this tv for the price £529 from currys.
I've also ordered a sony CT370 soundbar and sub for £219.
After listerning to them all in the shop via bluetooth and music on my phone I found this one to be a good sound with nice base for the money.
I kept going back to the Sonos bar which is far the best sound in there but I couldn't justify the high cost for what I need

They also usually have display port inputs on the Panasonic... 4k 60hz input from pc...good for pc gaming if you got the kit to run it.

for 4k, only really on Netflix at the moment but as the TV prices are dropping, I think there will be more content soon. The picture on Marco Polo is fantastic, very sharp with good depth.

Well Blue my soundbar and sub are up and running and can I say that for the price I'm very happy with the results, the bar gives good range and suround affect and the sub gives some nice bass without being too booming.

Fantastic, in the old days my HTY-750 didnt have enough bass and Yamaha realised this adding on the separate sub to help improve performance. These days it has become standard to have the sub as part of the package and you can see why. I opted for the virtual 7.1 system in my room as its quite small and I really feel the sound rebound around, sometimes the odd sounds even surprise me! I'm sure you will love it

Just bought the same sound bar to go with a 48" Sony TV but having some issues using a Sky remote to control the sound volume. If you use the Sky remote, it de-activates the TV speakers from mute and with both soundbar and TV speakers on, its dreadful.

The connection between TV and sound bar is via Optical cable, not HDMI (ARC)

Just wondering if you had any issues or do you just use the soundbar remote for adjusting volume?

On Sony TVs there is usually a menu option under audio to select external speakers. With this selected the integrated TV speakers do not operate whether muted or not.

As above on all tvs you have the ability to disable internal speakers which I had to do on some tvs and not others. All depends how bad they are haha

My tv is a Samsung. My sky remote turns the tv on/off and does the tv's volume control but not my soundbar, for that I use the soundbar remote.

As for turning the tv speakers off ? I did this yesterday in the tv's setting but today I have turned it back on again and when I use the soundbar now I just turn the tv's volume down to zero. I've done it this way to make it easier for my wife to watch the telly without having to use the soudbar, she can now just switch the tv on and turn it up without getting confused with the soundbar controls
