5 years of Z4 ownership...and I still love it !

I bought my Z4 5 years ago today so to celebrate I treated it to a bit of TLC this morning followed by a sedate cruise out for a pub lunch with the Mrs :D
I've had the hardtop on a few weeks now and left it on today as time was getting on when I'd finished detailing. A pleasant, warm experience but on a nice day like today and on my favourite Bowland roads it just felt wrong, I won't be doing it again. First and last time on a run out

In Jan'15 when I was looking for a Z4 I went down to Milton Keynes to see the car as it had the SMG gearbox I wanted and also a hardtop. I was a bit apprehensive as it was 'only' a 2.5 and I'd set my heart on a 3 litre. I'd looked at several 3 litre cars which were all disappointingly ropey and it was a long way to go from Lancashire but as soon as I walked in to the dealers and saw it I knew "This is the one" Love at first sight you might say. Also it had a great service history, 2 lady owners and 53,500m on the clock.
So 5 years later and it has 85k miles on it now and I still love it, I still look back EVERY time  I've looked at other newer cars recently including a test drive in a E89 35is but I just can't bring myself to part with it. There's just something about it. My wife Alison says there's too much of me in it now, maybe she's right. I've made a few subtle mods and done ALL the work and servicing myself. Only ever been in a garage for its MOTs. And maybe that's it...I've got under its skin and it's certainly got under mine.
I've enjoyed every minute, been the length and breadth of the country in it on various runs, met a lot of nice people and made some good friends along the way.
I've no intention of changing it, the love affair continues. Here's to the next 5 years

I've had mine 5 years on the 24th.

Might trade it in this year though for something a bit quicker!

These cars are addictive, and yours looks fantastic OP.

After 5+ years of E86 3.0Si ownership (2 of them) I bought an E86 M last month that I don't think I will ever want to replace - unless I get too decrepit to get in and out of it.

skelters, if you are serious you need to try an M - but don't do it unless you are prepared to want one.

I changed from an air cooled 911 in 2010 to an MR which I loved for 9 years, now have an MC, I think they’re an absolute steal bang for buck 8) :driving: that said if I’d have kept my 911 I’d be in high clover now :D £££££££

Still looking like new. Time less shape the E85 and great 6 pot engines. Why would you ever want to change. 8)

(Don't try an MR)

Always looks good Si, Reflects the love and care you put i to it
The e85 sure does get under the skin, had mine 8yrs, as you know i bought a near new 2 series vert to replace the Z.
Fast as fook, comfy but something was missing, so after 12mth the 2 went, then i sold mi Z but replaced with another e85,
Shudda kept em both ,but swimbo had other ideas.
:(

I had a 2003 plate 2.5 se from 2005 until about 2008 or 2009.

Took three months to find the current e85. That was 5 years ago this Friday.

Might go for an M this year or not. Not decided yet.

It’s amazing how we get attached to a bit of steel on wheels but that’s the magic of cars, also doing all those little jobs and cleaning somehow makes it feel like part of the family

Always looks good your car whenever I see it. I was 5 years ownership last November but I started with a 2.0 first before upgrading. As you say, heres to the next 5 years :driving:

Bought mine in 2013 and coming up for 7 years. Absolutely love it and there is nothing I would replace it with (except a Mr).

Wow ! 7, 8, 9, ....12 years of ownership ! Just proves that these little cars really do get under your skin :D

11 years, 2 months, and 154,000 miles in mine - have loved every* minute in it.

* excluding those times it's broken down :(

Lack of commitment, good time boy, transient, ship in the night

Over ten years and two hemispheres in mine, with no plans to sell. Here’s to the obsessives! :D

Had mine 8 years this coming March. I hate the thing  currently got a list of things to fix and an exhaust that sounds like it has a cherry bomb backbox. Bloody awful.

Sterling grey is a lovely colour when clean

What other car is there that looks so good, great performance, good mpg, cheap to buy and insure, and is so much fun to drive!

I'm afraid I can only offer 3 years now..but I've enjoyed every minute of it..it just puts a smile on my face when I look at it, and when I drive it, be a potter or a full hoon its a joy.. :driving:

What I like also is that its responded well to the various 'mods' I've done..not always the case in the past..

Mine's a keeper now..I've spent so much and twiddled with it a lot, even when I see things that do temp me I can't break away..

And then there's that Atacama Yellow..Yes................!!!

Yes, but it's nice to know you aren't the only one!
