Reasonable estimate is somewhere between 6 months and a year-half. As I said I'm having to space things over paychecks so that is slowing things down (plus kids, wife and I are both doing masters degrees, house, etc. are all taking valuable car money). At this point the only major piece remaining is to build the engine.

I'm working with some guys on Bimmerforums http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1887229-E46-Can-bus-project to work up an interface module to convert the GM tach/speedo/temp/etc. outputs to run the BMW gauges (for both the E46 and E85 gauges.... they are doing E46 swaps, I'm the E85 swap... but same end process). We believe we have it 90% of the way worked out, however none of us actually has a car with an LS1 ready to test it on yet, so everything is still "bench testing". Worst case I can sit my laptop in the passengers seat (to give me MPH) and drive around

Great project  How did you get on with the power steering ?

Have not got there yet, however it is on the "near to-do list". In the next month or two I should have that done (I want it in and working before the engine goes in).

Plan is after the rear end is in, I'll go back to finishing up the hydroboost setup (need to thread the pedal rod and make it adjustable). Then I need to make a steel clutch pedal to accept an aftermarket clutch master. Once that is all sorted out, I'll install the PS pump, rack, and hydroboost all at once.

nice project !! gonna be following this !, but after you did the engine swap you should do a front bumper conversion to match it up with the raw power you're going to have :)

I keep tossing the idea of an aero bumper around, but I keep coming back to liking the current one better (I think it's the smooth lines that I like better, rather than the more angular aero or M bumpers).

I will eventually have to replace the front bumper regardless (previous owner cracked the tabs and it needs a repaint anyways), so who knows...... :)

I already have the rear bumper taken care of:

I just want to say props to you.

A few weeks ago I was looking for an ls swap into a z4...only found a swap into a z3

Great conversion - the pre facelift looks great with face lift lights on it as you really see the snub nose when your eyes are not drawn to the lights.

Love the plate

The fastest Maldives out there - if you want photos of Maldives with Aero I can oblige

Subscribed!! Sounds like an awesome project and will be one hell of a sleeper.

Looking forward to more updates

OMG.... just one request, keep the Maldives blue colour...

Believe me, I'm keeping the color!
