4 and a half Marathons in June

I recently got into Zwift, which is a game for use on a treadmill (its primarily for cyclists on turbo trainers but they do running as well).

Fixed my treadmill a few months ago and got it fully set up - tv in front displaying the game from an iPhone, and a speed sensor so the game knows how fast you are running (the speed sensor is calibrated, the treadmill speed indicator is wrong). Other people in the game are real people around the world. Believe me, everything helps when running on a treadmill!

I have decided to try and run every day in June, and am currently up to about 6km in a session. So it occurred to me this is the equivalent of 4 marathons, or, 1 a week. Obviously, 6km isn't huge to some people, but doing it every day is going to get tougher, cumulatively etc. Oh, and the treadmill is stuck at 2% incline, which doesn't make it any easier!

I would like to raise some money for two breast cancer charities. My wife had breast cancer back in 2010 which after some horrible treatment and chemo etc she got the all clear. Then, in 2017 it came back as a secondary, in her spine. She's going to be on oral chemo for the rest of her life but can live a reasonably "normal" one. Due to the chemo she is immunosuppressed, and in full lockdown. I had to visit the office this morning, with full facemask!

So, the charities are Force Cancer Charity which are based in Exeter and offer support to patients and their families, and also Breast Cancer Care who fund a lot of research into prevention of breast cancer.

If you would like to donate we would appreciate it enormously, the page is https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/KevinWhite29

I need to tidy the cables up!

Looks like a torture chamber, good luck with your fundraiser for the two charities.

Any aches & pains or feeling ok still? :?
Rob

I walked for 5 minutes afterwards and stretched....which I never do :o

I think day 2 and 3 will be interesting as I haven't run 3+ days in a row before.

Injury is a risk, but f*ck it, gotta try these things!

Thanks. The phrase people use is "pain cave"...like a man cave but painful!

Good luck with your fitness and your fundraising.

A Friend of ours was planning to run the Plymouth Half marathon a couple of weeks back. Obviously cancelled. So he came up with the idea to run back and forth over the Tamar Bridge for 13 miles on the day. Pretty sure he raised a lot more this year running across the bridge, than he did last running the formal event. :)

Thank-you.

How many crossings of the bridge was that, bet it was quite a few....talk about repetitive :D

Probably caught peoples eye as it was unusual so its good to raise more money and he'll possibly remember it more than a "normal" half.

The bridge is 1/2 a miles long, so 13 outs and 13 backs.

3 days in (4th run tonight) and going well. Tuesday was a bugger, ran faster than normal and it was so hot it felt like a sauna.

Last night stayed to normal speed and it was much cooler, almost cold in fact.

Still time to sponsor me 😀

Last night was a virtual run in London:

1st week done, and therefore Marathon 1 complete.

Running every day without rest days is new to me but going well so far. Legs getting a tad sore but ordered some SIS recovery drink so that might help.

Lubed the treadmill today (everything’s better with lube) and also raised the end of the deck to reduce the (broken) incline from 2 degree to nearer 0. For every 6k I was climbing 200mtr!

Not too late to sponsor me 👍

Quick update to this for anyone interested.

Yesterday was the last day of my challenge to run every day in June.

Pleased to say I managed to do it, and without injury luckily.

Most days ok apart from the really hot ones, it was over 30c outside and not nice in the pain cave! Also had a few days where I was just exhausted and struggled to function in the morning until about coffee 6 (normally only need 5!!).

Finished the 4 marathons with 2 days to spare, so added a cheeky extra half marathon onto the end! (running 12k and then 10k on the final day...quite an increase from 6k!!).

I ran a total of 120 miles!!!!

Still grateful for any sponsorship anyone can give https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/KevinWhite29

Congratulations.
Doing something similar myself. My work adopt a charity every year. This year it is Headway, who look after people who have had brain injuries. We were due to do the Orwell Challenge, a 25 mile walk along the River Orwell, but that was obviously cancelled.
So I decided I would still do a walk for the charity. 11/12 July I'm doing the Peddars Way, 47 miles from Hunstanton to south of Thetford. Plan is to get at least 35 done the first day then wrap it up the second. Trouble is, 35 miles leaves we way away from any roads to be picked up, so I either need to stop at 31 or press on to 40.
Been out every weekend and am now comfortably doing 27+ miles, plus at least 5/6 the next day once I've loosened up. Last Sunday I felt I had another 5 in me so hopefully the walk itself should be ok. The weather will be the biggest factor! Nearly boiled over a couple of times.
On the plus side, I'm losing weight, feeling fitter and am much less stressed.

Sounds good, hope it goes well.

Do you carry any energy products with you? Dextro energy tablets are meant to be good and obviously hydrate plenty. Test out any new products beforehand, just in case they give you problems (diarrhoea etc).

The heat definitely has an effect, made my runs much harder on the hot days recently.

Back in my RAF days I used to nick all the boiled sweets out of the ration packs. Or carry the ubiquitous Kendal Mint cake.
But these days I find copious amounts of water and a couple of pasties from the local bakery do the trick just as well.
Mainly make sure I have a decent cooked breakfast before I set off.......................and carry toilet roll in the rucksack :)
