35is clutch drag.

Bonjourno,

As we have normal clutches I'm wondering if there is any drag when we're sitting at lights etc, with the foot brake engaged. When I release the foot brake I can't detect any mechanical take up with the car starting to roll very smoothly, so I'm assuming there must be a degree of drag, however light it may be. I'm also assuming this drag, should there be any, will have been factored in with a certain tolerance to keep it light therefore keeping your foot on the brake rather than knocking it out of drive is perfectly ok and won't cause any discernible wear on the clutches any more than normal use. Or is it better to knock it out of drive at the lights and then re-engage? I've been tending to knock it out of drive as I'm very mechanically sympathetic but am I being over cautious?

Any thoughts appreciated.

The DCT keeps the clutch packs disengaged at a standstill. It's only once you take the foot off the brake that it starts to engage.

Thanks for that. It's a damn smooth engage then as I can't feel it, seems seamless to me. :D

If you stomp on the accelerator pedal then you will feel it bite. Normally if ease away from a stop it's imperceptible.

Have you tried launch control yet?
A pal demonstrated it in his 330 xd (Company Car) and its a real shocker - it's without any mechanical sympathy to the system but a good party piece!

No !
It's a brutal load on components in my opinion and although it's been designed to cope with the load it does warn to allow 15mins of cooling time.

It won't allow launch until it sees a pre-determined operating temperature. Personally I've no particular need to try it, you can launch hard enough without it should you have the inclination. Having said that I suppose having a 35is it would be a giggle to try it once just so you could experience it.

I always remember being at Ford Fair at Silverstone one year watching the 0-60 boys, a guy rolled up in a brand spanking new Mondeo ST220, he revved it to the limiter, dropped the clutch and the drive shaft snapping bang was met with raucuos totally unsympathetic applaud and jeering. An uncommon failureI'm sure but 0-60 etc, has never interested me so having said the above I probably won't try it....

When it was demonstrated to me it was on the point if being scarey - one almighty single push and there seemed no way of being able to move forward out of the seat even if I'd wanted to!

A real party piece!

Have you seen Mr Plato testing the blue M roady in Switzerland just before it's launch? He bets his producer £5 he can't lean forward to pluck said fiver out of the dash under acceleration, Plato wins. The 35is, as you know, has at least, if not even harder, acceleration...

I think that was the stunt Mr Shelby used to do in his Cobras 🐍 .
