3 litre - genuine real mpg

Do the engines do any fuel trickery like shutting down to 4 pots when not needed or are all cylinders used all the time regardless?
If so then for a 6 cylinder these figures are very inspiring; I don't get that much better mpg from my 2.0l Celica.

The pull of getting a 3.0si is becoming stronger... :roll:

no they don't do any trickery :D
 
What amazed me on my Sunday run was the fact that before my OH bought the Scirroco she had two Mazda MX5'S firstly the 1.8 and more recently the 2.00 sport model and they both returned similar cruising figures to the to what we experienced on Sunday in our 3.00 litre SE. Whilst the mx5 is a brilliant handler you always had to rev it hard to get any performance from it - and they just don't sound as glorious as the straight 6 engine.
Three years ago we took the Mazda down to Northern Italy and Switzerland and did all the classic Alpine passes including the Stelvio from both sides- we have descided that next year we are going over again and doing a similar trip to include the Grossglockner pass in Austria - this will be a great trip in the BMW roadster - we can hardly wait :D
 
I did over 2,500 miles touring in France down into the Dordogne this August so had worked out based on miles travelled & litres used from the receipts:

I AVERAGED 31.44 MPG based on:

- overnight cruise @ 85mph
- pottering around lots of Chateaus
- Cruising the B roads, local towns & Bordeau (highly recommended French city, & ive been to many places)
- getting lost
- the odd play with the locals at double bubble UK speeds

Almost 32 MPG!!! was gobsmacked...

Hold the button down on your indicator stalk for a few seconds whilst it reads MPG, that should re-set...
 
Good to see these type of figure creaping around with the fuel prices the way they are.

One question I wanted to ask is...............(possible newbie question) having the roaster does the position of the roof effect the mpg?

More wind resistance with roof up or down etc?

Thought it was worth throwing it in there!

And dont flame too hard if its obvious! (dont have one yet but looking at one tomorrow) :driving:

I've noticed a drop of 2 or 3 mpg with the roof down. A price well worth paying though of course!

I've noticed a drop of 2 or 3 mpg with the roof down. A price well worth paying though of course!

to be honest, I have never really looked to see if it is any different :driving:
 
My 3.0si Coupe was showing 31mpg over many miles when i got rid of it in July. Don't remember ever resetting the counter on that one.
The Sdrive 30i is getting 34 with not much of a change in driving style.
 
I wonder, has anyone found any benefit or otherwise from using high octane fuel rather than standard 96 RON in a 3.0si ?
I'm interested as I'll become a newbie tomorrow - can't wait !

funny you should say that, as I was just looking at my figures the other day

for a while I was only using Shell V-Power, then a switched to Shell Fuelsave
I found some consecutive fill-ups of each at different times of the year (which I think don't include any holidays or long motorway runs)

Feb/Mar V-Power 2605 miles 76.4 litres 34.1 mpg
Jun/Jul Fuelsave 2550 miles 74.8 litres 34.1 mpg

which surprised me as I had previously thought I was getting more mpg from the V-Power
maybe the time of year made a difference, as I had winter tyres on for all of Feb/Mar
 
Hi Guys, newbie here.

I often average 37mpg in my 2007 3.0si Sport Auto when travelling from Hertfordshire to Liverpool via Warrington over the course of a week's stay; so a mix of motorway and town driving. I also do the trip in my 1.8 SMAX tdi and I often get 44-45mpg.
 
My 3.0L gets about 30% less than my Acura MDX SUV which means I have gone green :lol:

Seriously though...I have achieved 40.9 MPG (6.9 L/100KM) cruising the highway at 60 MPH but I average 31.7 MPG (8.9L/100KM) combined day to day driving. I live in a rural area so not much stop and go traffic. I generally run RPM between 2-3 K cruising.
 
Since owning the Zed i`ve used Morrisons cheapo fuel, 3.0auto SE.on motorway driving 75-85mph i was amazed to be getting 36mpg,this drops to 22 -25mpg on spirited runs :evil:
over the hills and twisty bits in the peak district.I consider this good as i was getting similar figures from my previous Z3 2.2 man.
Since reading other posts the next fuel will the 99 stuff perhaps it will go even quicker :D
