This in turn sits onto the rubber seal across the actual screen frame that the canvas roof closes down onto
Less coverage there could easily lead to water ingress around the sides of the screen itself , this in turn could end up in the footwells could it not ?

The sides were the same it was the top that was clearly different & by the fellas admission he said they very rarely sit down as the original due to it being smaller
Anyhow its not going on so not a worry

Fitter turned up around midday with a aftermarket onesent him packing & after contacting my insurer its re-booked for this Thursday with genuine screen
Made all the worse when the fitter said to me after id refused it " yeah we have a fair few call backs to Z4s with the aftermarket kit fitted , the seal across the top is narrower so can leak & doesn.t sit flush down at the corners so can give some extra wind noise at certain speeds "" & the curvature of them is not 100% as the OEM one so makes it difficult to bed in if temps aren't over 15deg :roll:
We shall see the outcome on Thursday :wink:
Hope you get it sorted Andy - worth holding out for and what a numpty knowing that using non OEM will cause problems still bringing it along - unbelievable
It may be my 6th Z but no sign of dwindling enjoyment or enthusiasm for these cars 
after a day at work i had to meet up with "Marlon" which meant a roundtrip of approx 80mins kicked off in rush hour 5-30 didn't need to go in the Z but so glad i did & so glad i took the long way home meaning a route over Pendle Hill at sunset

The M roady i had for 9 months , i used the same method initially on purchase & again after maybe 3-4 months ?
Car was garaged & saw very little rain which i assume has a bearing ?
Its a easy low cost process so worse case scenario do every 6-8 weeks as you would treat the paintwork
OEM windscreen fitted today with no fuss from the fitter at National Windscreens All done in approx 1 hr , trims / seals all back as they were & apart from zero chips in this one hard to see its ever been swapped
Chatting to the guy made me happy i held out for a genuine screen as he said some aftermarkets sit differently on one side to another , some can be marginally bigger or smaller , slightly different tint & at times different thickness :?
Anyhow job done with fresh set of Bosch blades so all ready for its first roadtrip this Friday
That reads really well and gives me a lot more reassurance about any future screen replacements

How did you go about getting an OEM screen? I've had a few aftermarket ones now and they just don't last as long. Main concerns are stone chipping ridiculously easily and scratches from wipers, even with new blades. Also the aftermarket seal has split at the top corners ever so slightly.
Insurance company seemed sure the screens are 'oem quality', but I beg to differ.

I spoke to my broker (Classicline) & explained my concerns RE aftermarket not always exact same fit + trims / seals not sitting correctly which being a roadster is fundamental to its watertightness & possible wind noise . The lady agreed with me & in turn spoke to my insurance provider ERS & that was it sorted
On the subject of glass cover and insurance. I have never made a claim etc and I am wondering just how far the coverage goes. I.e is the rear screen covered on glass coverage a E85 or a fancy pan-roof/sunroof etc on other vehicles? I wouldn't have thought so, as we all know a damaged back screen on a E85 and your into a full new roof and some of these panroofs/sunroofs are really quite elaborate. I would have though for these your into a claim on your proper insurance rather than the glass cover but does anyone actually know.
